Each and every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers get access to several new games that are theirs to keep for as long as they're signed up for the service, which retails for $59.99 per year. After a solid April in which subscribers received Dirt 2.0 and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Sony has revealed its free PS+ games for May. While they're a bit of a mixed bag, fans of simulation games will certainly be happy.

For May, Sony is giving gamersCities: Skylines and Farming Simulator 19

Cities: Skylines

Originally released on Windows and MacOS in 2015, Cities: Skylines received a PlayStation 4 port in 2017. In the game, players build a city, designing various aspects of its infrastructure with the goal of creating the living space of their dreams. The game -- which often draws comparison to the classic SimCity series -- features a robust, open-ended sandbox mode.

On Metacritic, the PlayStation 4 version of Cities: Skylines holds an 81. Reviewers praised the game for its depth and revitalization of the city-building genre following controversial changes to the SimCity franchise.

Farming Simulator 19

Farming Simulator 19 is developed by Giants Software. Released in 2018, the game series sees players running their own farm, with expansion being their main goals. Players make money through both harvesting crops and raising animals. Games in the series generally feature missions that allow players to earn some extra money by completing specific objectives. In addition to the base game, Farming Simulator 19 features DLC that gives players access to John Deere Cotton and Claas tractors and combines.

On Metacritic, the PlayStation 4 version of Farming Simulator 19 currently holds a 64, with reviewers criticizing the dry nature of the game, bugs and its unfriendliness to new players.

How Did PS+ Subscribers Make Out In May?

This is a bit of a mixed-bag month for PS+ subscribers. Cities: Skylines is a solid game, but it's quite old, and there's a good chance most gamers who are interested in simulation games will have already picked it up at some point. Farming Simulator 19 is also by no means a bad game, but it's also not a particularly inspiring choice. Overall, those looking for something other than a simulation game aren't going to find a whole lot here. Still, anyone looking to scratch a more hardcore version of their SimCityHarvest Moon or Stardew Valley itches might be able to have some fun with these until next month's games release.

Cities: Skylines and Farming Simulator 19 will be available for free to PS Plus subscribers between May 5 and June 1.
