After the long overdue reboot of The Proud Family, it looks like fans are not going to have to wait almost twenty years to see more of the animated family. In April 2022, Disney+ officially renewed The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder for a second season. Considering the cliffhanger of the Season 1 finale, this is no surprise.

The first season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder introduced new themes like overt queerness, great parodies, and even a love story. The Prouds have aged fairly well, however, there are certain things fans can do without and other things that they hope to see more of.

10 More References Like Hamilton

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Lamorne Morris Hamilton Benedict

The Proud Family is certainly known more for parodies than any other type of reference. Granted, the Hamilton parody was absolute gold, especially with comedic actor Lamorne Morris starring. The use of his real name to make the spoof more obvious is on-brand.

The name of the play is Benedict, and it is an unlikely but well-executed historical reference for The Proud Family. Season 1 introduced For Season 2, references to Prohibition, the Wild West, or just other popular musicals, would fit right in.

9 Penny And LaCienega Should Be Friends, Not Frenemies

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Penny LaCienega

When The Proud Family franchise began, Penny Proud and LaCienega Boulevardez were frenemies. In the reboot, they still are. However, though their conflict was almost necessary at the beginning, it no longer is. LaCienega and Penny have too much history and growth together to keep having petty squabbles. In Season 2 of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Penny and LaCienega deserve to be firm friends.

The Prouds and the Boulevardezes mostly like each other. Sunset and Trudy are great friends, while Oscar and Felix are pretty good buddies. New characters like the Leibowitz-Jenkins’ are a great addition, and they have been able to develop real relationships in one season. Penny and LaCienega need that in the second season as well.

8 More Screen-time For The Leibowitz-Jenkins’ Family

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Maya Randall KG Leibowitz-Jenkins

With the departure of Stinky, the Leibowitz-Jenkins moved in next door. Maya, Randall, KG, and Barry are a wholesome queer family and they need more screen time.

At the bank, Randall was helpful to Oscar, even when he did not need to be. Barry is also friendly with Sunset, and fans won't soon forget the dance choreography and gumbo party at their house. There is no reason why viewers should not see the multi-racial queer family more in Season 2 of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

7 Penny And Maya Becoming Closer

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins Penny

Though Penny Proud and Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins start off shaky, they end up being good friends. Penny is not used to criticism or anyone not liking her. Also Maya is not a villain like LaCienega, so she is a breath of fresh air for the reboot. Penny desperately wants someone to be her friend, and that is entertaining to watch.

When goody two shoes Penny decides to help Maya free a talking panda, the Proud Family universe expands. Storylines like Penny becoming an insufferable influencer while Maya calls her a sell-out are noteworthy. The budding friendship of the two girls needs to be explored more in Season 2.

6 More Breaking The Fourth Wall Jokes

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Al Roker

Cartoons are not known for breaking the fourth wall. Most people watch animation with a willing suspension of belief, but The Proud Family franchise became a little meta in the reboot. In The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Al Roker quips that Penny has been in middle school for 20 years.

This is a direct reference to the gap between the original The Proud Family and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Metafiction is a great form of comic relief. Season 2 needs more examples of hilarious moments and on-the-nose references to reality and the old show.

5 Myron Should Be Written Out

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Myron

Myron Lewinski is a forgettable filler character in The Proud Family universe. Apart from his surname being in poor taste, his unremarkable performances do little to advance the plot. In the original, he helps LaCienga to tarnish Penny’s reputation while elevating his.

Myron starts off as the boy who lies that he kissed a girl. Two decades later, he still thinks like that even in an alternate reality as a college student. Myron’s name combined with his creepy persona and the lack of genuine relationships makes him a prime candidate to be written off the show. Hopefully, the second season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder makes Myron disappear.

4 More Celebrities Playing Parodies Of Themselves

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Lizzo Penny

Parodies are the forté of The Proud Family animated series. Wizard and Ginger Snaps Kelly are popular parodies of Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie. Al Roker is a recurring caricature of himself. Even Mariah Carey made an exaggerated celebrity cameo.

More recently, Lizzo played herself and Lil Nas X is revealed to be Suga Mama’s relative. His song “Old Town Road” is even the inspiration for the town and family name. With a version of the Nutty Professor being Penny’s teacher, it is safe to say The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder has more parodies in the future. Fans are excited to see them.

3 An End to Suga Mama And Papi’s Toxic Interactions

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Suga Mama Papi

Since The Proud Family, the grandparents of Penny Proud and LaCienega Boulevardez have been involved. Suga Mama and Papi have a very toxic relationship, and it would be nice to not see it continued in Louder and Prouder.

Papi does not reciprocate Suga Mama’s attempts at a connection. Instead of discussing this fact, Papi says derogatory things about Suga Mama in Spanish, making her believe his insults are compliments. In Season 2, it would be nice to see Suga Mama with a worthy partner. Maybe Papi can interact more with his own family.

2 Dark-skinned Characters Need Better Storylines

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Penny Trudy Oscar Suga Mama Bobby Papi

The Proud Family was groundbreaking at the time in terms of having a wholesome Black family. The main difference in The Proud Family twenty years ago and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder now is the queer characters are not hidden. However, the cartoon has faced criticism for its portrayal of dark-skinned characters, particularly women.

Both Suga Mama and Dijonay have unrequited love interests while their lighter-skinned counterparts like Penny and Trudy don’t. The Gross sisters are the dark-skinned villains with no nuance. Oscar is just there for comedic relief. Unfortunately, even in the reboot, these tropes about dark-skinned characters have barely evolved. Viewers hope to see more variety in the storylines of the second season.

1 Dijonay Deserves Some Requited Romance

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Dijonay Maya Penny LaCienega KG Leibowitz-Jenkins Zoe

Dijonay Jones is one of the most stereotypical depictions of a dark-skinned woman on TV. She is loud and has multiple siblings she has to take care of. There is nothing wrong with these things on their own, but Dijonay is also shown to be a fickle friend to Penny who prefers to pursue boys over school or her own wellbeing.

The unfortunate writing of the Dijonay seems to be built into the character from her inception. She was originally meant to be called Delinquinetta, which is a play on a stereotype. In the reboot, the creators have a chance to rewrite Dijonay as a more well-rounded character.
