No punches get pulled in The Promised Neverland. It introduces you to some of the most adorable little kids and has no qualms about throwing them right into the wringer. No one goes through that more than poor Conny, who was the cutest of the bunch next to Phil. Normally, characters like Conny and Phil would be the light in the dark.

That's not the case at all with The Promised Neverland. Despite only hanging around the anime for an episode and the manga for a chapter, there are still a lot of things that don't make sense about the character. Some of the decisions the live-action show plans on taking are head-scratching as well.

10 Aging Her Up In The Live-Action Television Show

In the upcoming live-action television show, Conny is getting aged up to eleven from six, giving her a more teenaged appearance. On one hand, it makes sense as a viewer is going to have an easier time processing the death of a teenager over that of a little girl. On the other, it detracts a little from the story and the overall tone. Conny's death is meant to be jarring and make the viewer realize how awful the world is. Having someone that young die certainly accomplishes that.

While the aging up can be argued as necessary, the changes to Conny's appearance aren't. Her noticeable platinum blonde hair is going to be changed to brown, and if that weren't enough, her eyes are going to be black for some reason. The eye color change is the most head-scratching one. Black eyes aren't normal in a person, and in films, it's often associated with a dark or evil entity rather than a cute little girl.

8 Why Was She Eaten At Such A Young Age?

Conny and Bunny Promised Neverland

In the world of The Promised Neverland, intelligence plays a big role in a kid's meat quality. While Conny was always a bit slower than the rest of her family was, that doesn't explain why she was eaten so young.

While she was absent minded, as shown by her forgetting her little bunny before leaving, she wasn't exactly brain-dead. It didn't make much sense that she was taken away at such a young age as if her meat was the lowest of the low. Who's to say she couldn't be a late bloomer?

7 Forgetting Little Bunny Felt Like Nothing More Than A Plot Device

It can't be disputed that Conny was more than a little forgetful when it came to things. Her mind was often up in the clouds, floating around like a flower swept away in the wind. That said, her forgetting her beloved bunny felt like nothing more than a plot device. It isn't as if they sprang her release on her and dragged her away. Something as important as her stuffed animal would have come with her. The only reason she forgot was so the main characters could see her get killed.

6 Bringing Her Spirit Back Along With Isabella & Yugo Felt Hokey

For a series that could get as dark as The Promised Neverland did, it's surprising that they ended up going as hokey as they did in the second half of the series. An example was having Conny's spirit touch Ray's bag, helping guide him to Emma along with Isabella and Yugo. It felt unnecessary, mentioning a character who'd long since ended her importance in the story.

5 Why Did She Question The Lullaby That Isabella Was Humming?

On the way to handing Conny off to the demons, Isabella began humming one of her favorite lullabies. It was probably meant to be comforting to Conny and, at the same time, ease Isabella's mind ahead of what was about to happen.

What's odd is that Conny questioned the humming, as if Isabella didn't sing or play with the kids normally. Why would Conny be so curious about it? More importantly, why didn't she think it was strange that Isabella never answered her?

4 Conny's Comment About Not Having Held Isabella's Hand In Some Time Felt Out Of Place

While on their way to what would be Conny's slaughter, she commented that it'd been some time since she'd held Isabella's hand like this and how she'd be doing the same with her new parents when she got to meet them. It hinted at a distance between them that didn't sync up with most of what was shown earlier in the chapter; ahead of her death, she was pampered by Isabella. If anything, Conny seemed like one of Isabella's favorites.

3 Her Death Felt Rushed For How Important It Was To The Main Characters, Particularly Emma

Conny's death was the whole reason that Emma and company decided to escape the orphanage and eventually rise against a society that treated its children as nothing more than food. While that's good storytelling, her death could have waited for a few episodes, allowing the audience to build a connection to Conny that was as strong as the rest of the kids. Instead, shock value was prioritized, taking her out in the very first episode.

2 Why Didn't She Wonder Why She Was Being Adopted At Such A Young Age?

Much of this can be chalked up to her being such a small kid, but it's surprising no one at the orphanage wondered why Conny was getting adopted so young. The series made a point to say she was one of the youngest to leave, meaning it had to be strange to someone there. Admittedly, she was probably so happy to be going to a new family that she blocked any questions out of her mind, only focusing on the fun she'd have with her new mom and dad.

1 Why Didn't Conny Or Any Of The Other Kids Wonder Why They Had Numbers On Their Necks?

This isn't a Conny-centric problem, but she can be included in the issue. It never made sense why none of the kids wondered about the numbers on the sides of their necks. They all were being marked like cattle, and no one questioned it since Isabella was so nice to all of them, treating them as a big family. It'd have made more sense if they were called by their numbers rather than by actual names, conditioning them for life as just a number.
