Concept art from The Promised Neverland's new art book has revealed that the designs for Emma, Norman and Ray went through some changes before the final product. The art was posted by The Promised Neverland's official Twitter. "The Promised Neverland ART BOOK WORLD 2 days to go on sale," the tweet reads when translated from Japanese. "Part of the initial design proposals for Emma, Norman, and Ray published in ART BOOK. Emma's "tactile" might have been her bangs ...A lot of treasured materials that will be released for the first time in the world!"RELATED: The Promised Neverland's Bonus Chapter Strengthens Ray's Resolve

Emma's hair was initially rose-colored, as well as much shorter and cleaner. Her bangs barely covered her forehead and her iconic cowlicks only appeared on the top and back of her head; the smooth appearance differed greatly from the stuck-out, bright orange mop that she ended up sporting in the series.

While Emma was given shorter bangs, Norman's used to be swept to the side and hanging down his face. However, by the time the manga was released, they were shortened, revealing more of his forehead. In addition, Norman's eyes became horizontally wider, which helped him express the wide range of emotions he struggled with throughout his journey.

Ray appeared to look most like his finished depiction, with a cynical expression, thin frown and narrowed eyes. However, his bangs were initially two thick strands of hair that stuck out at his hairline, allowing more of his forehead and eyes to be seen. The design was scrapped, and Ray's new hairstyle added more to his pessimistic appearance by giving him bangs that -- instead of sticking out -- fell smoothly across his face and obscured his right eye.

Written by Shirai and illustrated by Demizu, The Promised Neverland has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since August of 2016. The manga follows a group of children living in Grace Field House, a lavish orphanage. While their life initially seems ideal, they soon discover that they are actually being raised as cattle, and are destined to be killed and sold to a "higher" species. Upon learning this, they begin to plan their escape.
