Although 2019 showered fans with follow-up seasons of popular anime like Attack On Titan and One-Punch Man, it also paved the way for some old and new manga to gain a following. One notable manga adaptation was The Promised Neverland by author Kaiu Shirai. Despite airing early last year, the show's mind-games and twists helped the series gain both popularity and another season. Fans won't be waiting long since season two will air this year.

After some pep-talk from the others, Don and Gilda forgive Emma, Ray, and Norman for withholding information. The episode concludes with Ray continuing to misinform Isabella while Sister Krone offers the other four a chance to join forces with her. This episode demonstrated the character's emotional ties with one another, especially Don's attitude toward Emma, Norman, and Ray. It's no wonder this episode was ranked highly.

9 EPISODE #2, SEASON #1 | RATING: 8.7

Emma and Norman plan ways to escape before they and their friends become demon food. During their discussion, they come to several conclusions. Knowing the demons are after their brains, Isabella uses a tracker to identify each child's whereabouts. They also resolve to inform Ray about their situation.

To their dismay, Isabella introduces another pair of eyes to watch over them: Sister Krone. Thus the episode ends with Norman, Ray, and Emma in a state of shock. This episode's focus on strategy, suspense, and characterization didn't devalue the previous episode's shocking twist.

8 EPISODE #5, SEASON #1 | RATING: 8.7

After examining the possible traitors in their group, Norman concluded that Ray was the traitor. In this episode, Ray toys with Norman until confirming Norman's suspicions. Then Ray shares details about his secret working relationship with Isabella. Afterward, Norman agrees to have Ray be a double-agent, and Ray tells Emma, Don, and Gilda about his secret. However, Don and Gilda still don't know the full story about the demons and Isabella.

Emma informs their group about a secret room, and they all agree to avoid this room. After careful observation, Gilda and Don come out clean, and the episode ends with Norman assuming that Ray is the traitor. The cautious, suspicious feeling in this episode accompanied by different camera shots made loving it a no-brainer.

6 EPISODE #9, SEASON #1 | RATING: 9

Following Emma's injury and Isabella announcing Norman's shipping date, Ray and the others panic as they don't want their friend to become a full-course meal. However, Norman's confronted by Ray and Emma (who's still in bed recovering) about a plan to keep him safe. Everything works out as Isabella's unable to track him down since Norman's transmitter's destroyed. In a shocking turn of events, Norman returns after noticing that beyond the wall's a cliff. He's lost all hope of escaping. Scenes like Norman's view of the cliff and his hopeless facial expressions when he returns showcases how the series loves to use reality to dampen the protagonists' plans.

5 EPISODE #1, SEASON #1 | RATING: 9.2

The episode introduces the orphanage, its 35 children, their caretaker Isabella, and showcases their daily lives. In detail, the children are either playing outside or are taking high-level math and literature tests. The episode makes sure to highlight the three child protagonists, Emma, Norman, and Ray, who are the orphanage's best students.

After some laughs and chatter, a child named Conny leaves the orphanage after being adopted. However, Emma notices that Conny left her stuffed toy behind and heads to the gate with Norman to give Conny her toy. Then Emma and Norman discover the truth. The orphanage is a child farm to feed demons and Isabella knows it.

4 EPISODE #10, SEASON #1 | RATING: 9.3

Following Norman's decision to return to the orphanage, nothing Ray or Emma says persuades him to follow their previous plan. Throughout the majority of the episode, Norman flashes back to his childhood moments with Emma and Ray, adding to the episode's depressing tone. Before Norman departs, Emma makes one last effort to save her friend, but similarly, Norman denies Emma the chance to save him.

Norman departs, and we transition to scenes where everyone gives up hope of escaping. Isabella even tells Emma that there's nothing she can do to change her and the remaining children's fate. Although all hope seems lost, the final confrontation in this episode between Emma and Ray indicates that they still have a trick up their sleeve.

3 EPISODE #8, SEASON #1 | RATING: 9.4

Emma catches the match and saves Ray. She informs him that this was all a part of Norman's escape plan he created before he got shipped. Don fills Ray in on everything Emma didn't share with him. The final scene shows a manic Isabella acting as if all is well while a child's hand grabs at her outfit.

Unbeknownst to Isabella, Norman planned for Emma and the others to zipline over the cliff to escape. Ray admits defeat and helps encourage the younger children to zipline. Before Emma departs, Isabella catches her and demands that she not leave the orphanage. Emma denies her request and ziplines, leaving Isabella behind.
