The upcoming sequel Disenchanted has dropped a new trailer, further touting the twists that will award fans for their patience.

As the clip showcases, the ongoing exploits of Amy Adams' real-world-migrated storybook princess, Giselle, trades a hectic life in the Big Apple for small-town splendor in the suburbs. While the newer, purportedly peaceful atmosphere may initially seem conducive for her and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) in raising their children, the princess' past will come creeping back in multiple ways. Indeed, Giselle's desire to recreate her old life turns the town into a fairy tale facsimile. Moreover, the magical act stokes a rivalry with the town's own evil queen, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph). However, the feud also seems to be bringing out her dormant dark side, which she must combat in order to restore the town from chaos.

The aforementioned wait of fans for Disenchanted will ultimately stand at just about 15 years since Disney released its predecessor. Having been released stateside on Nov. 21, 2007, the original Enchanted took shape as a family-friendly live-action film, depicting the exploits of Adams' Princess Giselle, who escapes the wrath of an evil queen (Susan Surandon) in her animated fairy tale world of Andalasia by crossing into the real world. After arriving in the dramatic landscape shift of New York City, fate pairs the princess with a single father named Robert Philip (Dempsey), who takes in the confused new arrival, eventually yielding love.

Disenchanted's Long-Awaited Homecoming

Enchanted, as directed by Kevin Lima and written by Bill Kelly, proved to be a big success for Disney, grossing $340 million worldwide at the box office. While plans for the sequel that would become Disenchanted were gestating as early as 2010, the project ended up stuck in developmental purgatory until confirmation finally arrived in 2020 during a Disney Investor Day announcement. Consequently, this long-awaited sequel to a successful film is being viewed as a miraculous moment.

Producer Barry Josephson had an emotional reaction to that announcement. "I guess dreams do come true," he said. "Producing Enchanted was the most rewarding film experience I've ever had." He added, "I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play 'Giselle,' the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!" Besides Adams, Dempsey and Rudolph, that cast will also consist of names such as James Marsden, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabriella Baldacchino and Idina Menzel.

Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages) serves as director for the sequel, working off a script by the original movie's writer, Bill Kelly. The film will also feature new songs from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The director was similarly elated upon the announcement. "Working again with Disney has been like coming home," Shankman said. "With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen's mind-blowing new score, and Barry and Disney's support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world."

Disenchanted makes its exclusive debut on Disney+ on Nov. 18.
