A Princess Bride stage production? Inconceivable! Well, not so much, according to TheWrap. In fact, it's already in the works through a deal with Disney Theatrical Productions.

The beloved film is based on a book written by screenwriter William Goldman, who won Academy Awards for his Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President's Men scripts. The romantic fantasy was presented as an abridgment of a larger work that does not exist. Rob Reiner directed the film version starring Robin Wright, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Andre the Giant, Peter Falk and Fred Savage.

“Buttercup, Westley and all of Florin are in the best of hands,” Goldman said in a statement.

At least two of those hands belong to Disney Studios chief Alan Horn, who helped make the deal happen. He has a long history with the film going back to his days at Castle Rock. "My involvement in The Princess Bride goes back to 1987 and it has always been close to my heart," Horn said. "For all those years and a few more, I’ve been friends with the brilliant Bill Goldman, and to now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true."

At this point, no talent or time frame have been announced for the project.
