The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes was airlifted to a hospital after being bitten by a rattlesnake.

The actor was reportedly bitten by the snake while working outside of his Malibu, CA home, according to TMZ. He was quickly airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center as it was suspected the bite could be life-threatening, though it's said he'll make a full recovery.

Elwes has starred in such films as Saw and Robin Hood: Men in Tights, but it's for his turn as Westley/Dread Pirate Roberts in 1987's The Princess Bride that most fans remember him. "I think I can speak on behalf of all the cast and all the filmmakers involved with this film, that we feel incredibly blessed that all of you, and all the fans out there, have embraced this film into your hearts the way you have," Elwes said at New York Comic Con in 2014. "It is something phenomenal; we’re blown away by it all."

Based on the 1973 William Goldman novel of the same name, The Princess Bride sees Peter Falk's "Grandpa" tell Fred Savage's "Grandson" the story of how Elwes' Westley fell in love with Robin Wright's Princess Buttercup, only to be presumed dead. He'd later return as the Dread Pirate Roberts and attempt to reconnect with Princess Buttercup, who by then had become engaged to a ruthless prince.

"Now, I knew the book, I read the book when I was 13," Elwes previously said. "And I knew who [director] Rob Reiner was. I had seen All in the Family as a kid and I had seen a pretty cool movie he made called Spinal Tap. I didn’t know what I was more excited about: the idea of Marty Di Bergi being in my hotel room or Meathead."

In 2019, reports suggested a Princess Bride remake was in the works. "We have so many people coming to us saying, 'We want to remake this show or that show,'" Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra said. "Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride. Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms. Not a month goes by when we don’t have an idea coming from some very big name wanting to do things with Norman."

Elwes took issue with this and wrote, "There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one."
