Prime 1 Studio revealed a new pricey but impressive Godzilla figure.
The premium collectible manufacturer has opened preorders on its website for its latest Godzilla figure, which depicts the King of the Monsters as he appeared in 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong. The massive new figure stands at over 34 inches tall and features screen-accurate sculpted scales and dorsal fins. The new Godzilla is available in two variants: the standard edition, which carries a kaiju-sized $2,499 USD price tag, and the premium "Heat Ray" edition, which will cost truly dedicated collectors a whopping $2,699 USD. The "Heat Ray" variant justifies that extra $200 USD with the addition of LED lighting throughout the massive statue that accurately recreates the glow of Godzilla's fins, mouth and eyes as he prepares a blast of his deadly radioactive breath.
Preorders are now open for both versions of the figure. Fans will need to secure their order with a ten percent down payment, and Prime 1 Studio is offering an installment plan for collectors who want to pay off their statues a little bit at a time. A $100 discount is also being offered for fans who previously purchased one of the company's Godzilla busts. The gigantic collectibles are expected to begin shipping sometime between May and December of 2023.
Godzilla vs. Kong was directed by Adam Wingard and released in 2021. Despite being released simultaneously on the HBO Max streaming service, the film still managed to be one of the top ten highest-grossing films of the year, pulling in over $468 million USD worldwide during its theatrical run. The fourth film in Legendary Picture's MonsterVerse franchise, the movie saw King Kong and Godzilla face off against each other as a shadowy corporation sought to harness the power of the Titans.
A sequel to the film, which will once again be helmed by Wingard, is currently in production and will reportedly carry the title Son of Kong. Legion and Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens has signed on to play a lead role in the sequel. The movie is planned to begin filming in Australia later this year. The MonsterVerse will also expand to the small screen in a new and as-yet-untitled TV series, which will be distributed exclusively through the Apple TV+ streaming service.
Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as a selection of the previous MonsterVerse movies and classic Godzilla films from Toho Co. Ltd., are available for streaming on HBO Max.
