Based on the Image Comics graphic novel series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang, Paper Girls revealed its live-action cast in April 2021. Rosinsky will star as Mac Coyle, a loner who becomes the leader of the Paper Girls; Jones as Tiffany Quilkin, an only child with big plans for her future; Lai Nelet as Erin Tieng, a dutiful daughter who feels caught between two worlds; and Strazza as KJ Brandman, who "doesn’t need the paper-delivery job, but it makes her feel free." Ali Wong will also appear in the series as an adult version of Erin Tieng.

Paper Girls was announced as a series in 2019, with Christopher Cantwell (Iron Man) and Christopher C. Rogers (Halt and Catch Fire) serving as showrunners and executive producers alongside Stephany Folsom (Toy Story 4).

Paper Girls follows four 12-year-old paper delivery girls (Erin, MacKenzie, KJ, and Tiffany) who, on the morning after Halloween in 1988, become caught in a conflict between two warring groups of time travelers while on their delivery route. Now caught up in the conflict, the girls travel to the past, present and future (encountering future versions of themselves along the way) in an attempt to save the world. Like the comics, the television series will be set in the fictional Ohio suburb of Stony Stream.

First published by Image Comics in 2015, Paper Girls concluded its run in 2019 with its 30th and final issue. Image Comics published the complete series as a trade paperback compendium in the fall of 2021 titled, Paper Girls: The Complete Story. "I'm so proud of this story," Vaughan said about the compendium. "And I think our young heroes' complex journey through time reads particularly well in one epic binge-read, so this gorgeous new collection is the perfect way to enjoy the entire series, currently being adapted as an amazing television show for Amazon Prime!"

Prime Video's Paper Girls does not yet have a release date.
