The following contains spoilers for Primal Season 2, Episode 4, "The Red Mist," now available on Adult Swim.

In Season 2 of Primal, Spear and Fang found themselves in their most challenging situation yet after battling so many threats of old. They took to the seas to find Mira, the woman Spear fell for, after she was taken by slavers, aka the Scorpion clan. But the journey became even more treacherous as Spear and Fang sailed into a storm, not knowing what lay ahead.

They had to fight off a giant shark on their journey, which ended with them alive, but separated and shipwrecked on a new island. This uncharted territory continued to test the duo, with fate eventually bringing them back to each other. However, while a stroke of luck led to Spear finding Mira again, the reunion had Mira making a decision she could come to regret.

In Season 2, Episode 3, "Dawn of Man," Spear and Fang reconnected when Fang found the benevolent Celtic village where Spear was being treated for his wounds. Sadly, a war broke out, which resulted in Fang killing her new dino-buddy to save the humans. She left, though, as despondent as ever, with Spear following, because no matter what, he couldn't abandon her.

This led to a fight against Viking-like warriors and their giant bears. Spear and Fang killed their enemies, realizing they were actually war hounds belonging to the Scorpion clan. As a result, Spear tracked the village and got Mira out, only for her to demand he escort her fellow slaves to safety, too. Spear reluctantly did so to please her, with "The Red Mist," shaping a brutal, bloody war against the Scorpion army as they tried to escape.

Thankfully, Spear and Fang were able to kill most of the clan, with Mira also getting a shocking moment to shine -- murdering an ax-wielding soldier in a gory scene. She ended up helping a wounded Spear and Fang take a ship and leave, but Mira left her clan behind. She didn't have time to go get them, but a big part of her leaving so quickly isn't just associated with getting her friends into hiding -- it also has to do with how Mira felt spilling blood. After all, she wasn't into killing humans, but she had no choice in this case, breaking her code.

This breeds two dangers: firstly, with Mira's pacifist clan on the island alone, they could be attacked by new predators, both man and monster. The last remaining Scorpions freed some fresh slaves there before going after Mira and Co. so these liberated folk, desperate to carve out a new home on the Scorpions' island, could end up placing Mira's team in bondage again, or worse, kill them for dominion.

Secondly, Mira could become a liability to Spear and Fang, as she seems broken on the inside after disavowing peace. She was petrified seeing Spear and Fang in their berserker modes, so if she can't embrace this new violent side of them, she may well slow the duo down. Should she and Spear also have differing philosophies on adapting, and squabble along the way, it could also throw him off his game as an apex protector who can't afford to be weak. Ultimately, this risk and baggage can undo the teamwork, rapport and chemistry Spear and Fang cultivated, making them, as well as Mira, easier targets, not just for the remaining Scorpions, but new threats down the line as they venture into uncharted territory.

Created by Genndy Tartakovsky, Primal debuts new episodes Thursdays at 12 am EST on Adult Swim, with episodes released on HBO Max the following day.
