The latest Predator movie, Prey, is here, and fans of the franchise are absolutely loving the prequel.Prey takes place in the early 1700s and focuses on a group of Comanche warriors taking on the eponymous alien threat. It's a distant prequel to the 1987 classic, but the decision to completely alter the setting connected with many audiences. Plenty of praise has been heaped on Amber Midthunder's performance. Midthunder was recently tapped for Netflix's live-action Avatar: the Last Airbender series, where she will portray Princess Yue. Midthunder is best known for her TV performances, but for many, Prey acts as definitive proof that she can carry a film just as effortlessly as an episode of television.

While many have focused on celebrating the release of Prey, some have also lamented the decision to send the movie straight to streamers. Prey was not given a theatrical release and was instead dropped somewhat unceremoniously on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in other territories.

Still, Prey remains a breath of fresh air for Predator fans. There have been numerous attempts at reviving the franchise, but most have been middlingly received by fans. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg has compared the titular Predator's role in many sequels to that of a professional wrestler, stating that he wanted Prey to return the character to its horrifying origins. According to fans, Trachtenberg's efforts were an absolute success.

Prey is currently streaming on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in other territories.
