Prey will receive its world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con later this month before being released exclusively on Hulu on August 5.

Hulu is partnering with Collider to host the film's first public screening at SDCC on July 21 at 8:30pm. Afterward, there will also be a Q&A session with Prey actors Amber Midthunder (Legion), Dakota Beavers and Dane Diliegro, plus producer Jhane Myers and director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane). Because this will likely be the only occasion audiences can see Prey in a movie theater, Collider is offering free tickets to select fans who would like to see the film before its Hulu release.

Those interested in attending can request tickets via email, preferably with a few sentences about why they want to see Prey. The screening will be open to anyone, regardless of whether a Comic-Con badge has been obtained. Entries will be accepted until July 16 at 12pm PST and winners will be announced the next day. The film's screening will take place a few miles from SDCC, so shuttles will be provided from the Gaslamp District to transport audience members to and from the showing if they need a lift.

Prey takes place three centuries ago in the Comanche Nation and will tell the story of Naru (Midthunder), a novice warrior from the legendary tribe of Great Plains hunters. Despite her community's lack of faith in her abilities, Naru develops into a fierce combatant as her people face an unseen threat of alien origin. Setting out to defend her family and home, Naru's hunt leads to her discovering that her adversary is a technologically-advanced hunter (Deliegro) from another world. Trachtenberg has stated the film will focus on action instead of dialogue, although it will offer a dub and subtitles in the Comanche language.

Prey is the fifth entry in the Predator franchise and serves as a historical prequel to the earlier installments. The first film, 1987's Predator, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and followed a group of elite mercenaries being stalked by the titular alien hunter in a Central American jungle. It spawned three sequels (1990's Predator 2, 2010's Predators and 2018's The Predator) as well as two cinematic crossovers with the Alien franchise. In addition to Midthunder, Prey will star a number of Native and First Nations actors such as Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Stefany Mathias, Michelle Thrush, and Julian Black Antelope.

Prey will be officially released on Hulu on Aug. 5, 2022.
