Possibly the biggest surprise comics hit of the summer is the Image Comics series Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer, based on the ubiquitous painting by legendary artist Frank Frazetta. The creative team of writer Joshua Ortega, artist Nat Jones and colorist Jay Fotos took the single iconic image and ran with it, creating a whole new world and mythology for the character that's been endorsed by Frazetta and his organization. The "Death Dealer" team created a hit - the first issue sold out immediately, as did subsequent issues.
The "Death Dealer" series has been such a success that it's inspired a whole series of one-shots based on other Frazetta paintings. Jay Fotos shared all the details with CBR News back in July. In addition, Image Comics will release a special black and white edition of issue "Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer" #1 this November, showcasing the highly detailed artwork of Nat Jones.
Image Comics has provided CBR News with an advance look at those black and white pages by Jones. Simply click the images below to enlarge, and stop by CBR's Image Comics forum when you're done to discuss Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer with fellow readers.
