One of Marvel Comics' Free Comic Book Day offerings in May will feature writer Nick Spencer, artist Ryan Ottley, inker Cliff Rathburn and colorist Laura Martin's first story for The Amazing Spider-Man.
Marvel has released the creative team's first preview pages for the FCBD story, and it shows Spider-Man squaring off against the Superior Foes of Spider-Man, which Spencer penned from 2013 to 2014. There is also a black and white preview page for The Amazing Spider-Man #1, arriving in June.
"Spider-Man was my gateway into the world of comics so it definitely feels full circle, I’m drawing what I always dreamed of drawing when I was a teenager," Ottley told Marvel.com. "And to be honest, I’ve been drawing super hero comics so long on “Invincible” that I thought this would be business as usual drawing super heroes but that kid in me is having a lot more fun drawing these characters than I thought I would have! The change to a new project was a much easier transition than I anticipated. Thank goodness!"
The early synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man #1 reads,
An alien invasion attacks New York City and the only one who can stop it is…Spider-Man?! But that’s far from all you’ll find here—a revelation from the past puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships, and whole life in jeopardy! And if even that’snot enough, you’ll see a new roommate, new love interests, and a new villain!
The Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley, Cliff Rathburn and Laura Martin arrives in June.
