Fox has debuted the teaser trailer for director Shane Black's long-awaited sequel, The Predator, which promises to revitalize the sci-fi action franchise with genetically upgraded alien hunters.
Clocking in at a minute and a half, the teaser sets up the film's premise, with an alien ship crashing on Earth, with a team of mercenary-assassins led by Boyd Holbrook sent to investigate the site. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't go well, leading to a government probe, the presence of one or more Predators in an otherwise-tranquil suburb, and confirmation of what was teased last month in the first official synopsis: that the hunters are upgrading themselves using DNA collected from species on each planet they visit.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
Directed by Shane Black from a script he wrote with Fred Dekker, The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Jane Thomas, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey and Yvonne Strahovski. The film arrives in theaters on Sept. 14.
