Marvel has announced a new July release date for Ed Brisson and Kev Walker's Predator #1 following last year's postponement of all Predator projects.

Predator #1 -- which comes from Brisson (Iron Fist, Ghost Rider), Walker (Dr. Strange, Doctor Aphra) and cover artist Leinil Francis Yu -- will go on sale July 6. Based on the 1987 film of the same name, the new series promises all of the horror, action and insanity fans have come to expect from the Predator franchise. The synopsis for Predator #1 reads, "The story kicks off when a young girl sees her family slaughtered by a Predator. Years later, though her ship is barely holding together and food is running short, Theta won’t stop stalking the spaceways until the Yautja monster who killed her family is dead…or she is."

Marvel's Predator Series From Brisson and Walker Finally Gets a Release Date

“I've been obsessed with Predator since first seeing the film at the drive-in theater as a kid," Brisson said about working on Predator. "I can still remember sitting there in horrified fascination and then acting out the movie for my classmates the following week at school. I bought the VHS and wore the hell out of the tape. Getting to write the characters launch for Marvel is a dream come true. When they offered me the gig, I already had a million ideas ready to go. Not only am I excited to write a Predator book, but I'm doubly excited to be working with Kev Walker on the series. The pages he's turned in so far and mind-blowing. He's delivered awe-inspiring alien planets; huge, blood-pumping action scenes: and devastatingly emotional beats all in the space of the first issue. I really think we're making something quite special here.”

In July 2020, Marvel announced that it acquired the licenses to Alien and Predator. The Xenomorphs made their Marvel debut in 2021's Alien #1 by writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson, artist Salvador Larroca and cover artist In-Hyuk Lee; however, the publisher unexpectedly postponed all Predator projects in April 2021. Prior to Marvel, Dark Horse published lines of Alien and Predator comics.

Predator premiered in theaters in June 1987. Directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Shane Black and more, the film follows a group of combat soldiers who are being stalked by an otherworldly monster while on a rescue mission in Central America. It was followed by a number of sequels/soft reboots, including 1990's Predator 2, 2010's Predators and 2018's The Predator, which was directed by Black. The series also crossed over with the Alien franchise in 2004's Alien vs. Predator and 2007's Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. A new Predator movie, Prey, is currently in the works from 20th Century Studios. With this marking the first Predator movie since Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox, the film is expected to premiere on Hulu and in summer 2022 but does not yet have an official release date. It will also debut on Disney+ in some international territories.

Predator #1 comes from Brisson, Walker and Francis Yu. The issue goes on sale July 6.
