Less than a month until its wide release, Shane Black's The Predator is currently tracking towards a solid opening weekend according to industry analysts.

Early box office estimates for the upcoming sci-fi/action sequel has the film on track to earn approximately $25-30 domestically during its opening weekend next month. For comparison, the most recent Predator film, 2010's Predators earned $24.7 million domestically during its July opening weekend.

For a September release, which is traditionally seen as a slower month for cinemas, this places the sequel as the highest opening weekend for the franchise not counting Alien vs. Predator which earned $38.2 million when the sci-fi crossover first opened in August 2004.

With a solid, if somewhat modest, early estimate for its domestic opening, Fox is hoping strong word-of-mouth reception among fans will help the film have staying power in the cinemas for weeks to come.
