Shane Black's upcoming Predator sequel will be more than just a one-off revival.

According to producer John Davis, this September's sequel will set up two additional films with the hopes that Black will return to direct. The veteran producer declares that Black's new movie has completely reinvigorated the franchise and given it its second wind.

"This is an auteur-driven reimagining," explained Davis in an interview with Variety. "Shane Black has a voice and a signature, and it kind of re-enlivens the franchise."

Davis has produced every single Predator movie, including both Alien vs. Predator spinoffs; the 1987 original Predator was the first film he ever produced. Despite having Davis' support, though, Black remains noncommittal about the possibility of returning to helm potential sequels.

"I would love to say we’ve been planning a trilogy, but I take one day at a time," admitted Black. "In motion-picture terms, that’s one movie at a time."

With less than two months until the iconic alien hunter returns to Earth, it's still anyone's guess who makes it out alive to fight another day.

Directed by Shane Black from a script he wrote with Fred Dekker, The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Jane Thomas, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski. The film arrives in theaters on September 14.
