Since she was Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers was a very notable superhero, but once she became Captain Marvel she joined the ranks of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. Half-human and half-Kree, she has the ability to harness any type of energy and use it as a weapon. Along with that, she possesses superhuman strength and interstellar flight.

However, Carol possesses more abilities than she usually uses, and many of them are not shown in the comics. Some of them come from her previous adventures and some are simply waiting for her to reach her untapped potential. Hopefully, fans will be able to see her showcase all of her powers in the future.

10 As A Journalist She Has The Power Of Her Words

Not many people know this, but many years ago, before she became one of the strongest superheroes on the Marvel Universe, Carol Danvers worked at the Daily Bugle alongside J. Jonah Jameson. Here, she was the editor of Woman Magazine. However, this aspect of her career did not last.

As every Marvel fan knows, Jameson can be a very difficult man to work with. While Carol was interested in serious journalism, Jameson had a very specific idea of what a lady should be reading about (diets, fashions, cooking). This constant disagreement ended up with these two characters parting ways.

9 She Can Lift Mjolnir

Captain Marvel lifts Mjolnir

During The Last Avenger arc by Kelly Thompson and Lee Garbett, Captain Marvel is doused with the DNA of the other Avengers after Vox Supreme forces her to murder them. Once this happens, she realizes she is now able to command Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

This comes as a surprise for everyone, and so Carol manages to take this plot twist as an advantage to defeat Vox Supreme using the hammer. After the battle, she loses this ability, which leads her to reflect on what happened. She realizes that the only reason Mjolnir recognized her is because she had Thor’s DNA inside her.

8 Solar Energy Recharges Her

Since Carol Danvers can harness energy from almost any source, the sun is her personal battery. Her powers allow her to take the photons emitted by a star and then harness their solar radiation. This means Captain Marvel is superpowerful on any planet with a sun.

Carol's favorite technique during a fight is to manipulate this energy to turn it into beams that then she shoots from her fists. However, there’s no doubt she can do much more than that with this skill.

7 She Doesn’t Have To Eat Or Sleep

Captain Marvel powers up

While many superheroes possess superhuman stamina and resilience, they still need to stop and eat, sleep and hydrate. Not Carol, who can subsist using only the energy around her, regardless of where she is at the moment.

Although she is seen eating and sleeping in the comics, she doesn’t really need to do it as all humans do. There isn’t any explanation for this, but one can assume that she just likes to do it, or that maybe those things help her replenish her power up faster than just absorbing energy, or keep in touch with her humanity.

6 She Can Talk To Cats... Maybe

Captain Marvel Flerken Chewie

Chewie is Carol’s pet. He looks like a domestic housecat, but Rocket Racoon soon identifies him as a Flerken, an alien that resembles Earth's felines. His powers include access to pocked dimensions and strong tentacles that are usually hidden away.

Although Carol is not known for speaking with animals, she is perfectly capable of communicating with Chewie throughout the comic books. Even if the animal never answers back in any known language, Carol understands him and he understands her. All in all, they both seem to share a clear understanding of each other's language.

5 Gravity Is Yet Another Force She Can Control

Captain Marvel time jump

Just like how she can manipulate the energy around her, Captain Marvel can control gravity. This skill comes directly from her time as Binary, which gave her the ability to harness the power from a white hole and control stellar energies.

Weirdly enough, Carol only uses her control over gravity to be able to fly, and she never shows it off during battle. Since she only retains her Binary powers on a smaller scale, maybe she is not able to manipulate this fundamental force in any other ways or maybe she understands that this power is too dangerous and difficult for her to control.

4 She Can Harness The Energy Of A White Hole

Binary Carol Danvers Marvel Comics

Before becoming Captain Marvel, but after being Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers was hit by an alien ray that augmented her powers and mutated her into the superhero known as Binary. This ray gave her the unknowable powers of a white hole, and so, she became a master of every type of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum.

Although her powers eventually returned to their regular levels, she retained many of Binary's abilities, but to a smaller extent. This means Captain Marvel can, potentially, use a white hole as a weapon.

3 She Can Cast Illusions To Confuse Her Enemies

Given that Carol inherited all of her abilities directly from Mar-Vell, it is very probable that she can cast illusions just as the older superhero did. Although his powers did not come directly from magic, as Dr. Strange's abilities do, Mar-Vell was able to create illusions by using energy and projecting it as a hologram.

So far, the Marvel comic books have not featured Carol using this ability, but it is safe to assume she has it since her powers are identical to Mar-Vell's. Because of this, fans can only hope soon she will manifest this new skill, maybe at the moment that she needs it most.

2 Her Kree DNA Makes Here Immune To Most Poisons and Drugs

Captain Marvel # 29 cover

It is not possible to kill Carol Danvers using a poisonous substance, at least not on Earth. Her DNA, infused by Kree technology, makes her immune to every type of venom currently known by man. In addition to this, her body automatically cleans any external pathogen in her anatomy. So even if there was a toxin able to defeat her, this would probably fail.

This is not exactly an ability she can use at will, but she doesn't have to; her physiology is always on her side. Besides, this immunity gives Carol an advantage over other superheroes who may be super powerful but can still be overwhelmed by poisons or disease.

1 Her Ability To Modify Herself On The Molecular Level May Allow Her To Change Her Appearance

Captain Marvel Magic

As Ms. Marvel, Carol was able to modify her physical appearance at will between her human look and her Kree blue-skinned look, easily switching between her two aspects. Along with this, there are many story arcs where the Kree race uses shapeshifting technology in battle.

Since Carol Danver's DNA is half-Kree, and since she has already shown that she is capable of modifying her appearance, she should be able to shapeshift beyond just changing her skin color. After all, she can control matter and energy; manipulating her own molecules should at least be a possibility for her.
