Eleven-year-old Bailee Madison has landed a plum role in the pilot for Powers, the FX adaptation of the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.
Debuting in 2000, Powers follows the lives of Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, homicide detectives who investigate cases involving “powers” (people with superhuman abilities) in a world where superheroes and supervillains are common.
Deadline reports that Madison, best known for Bridge to Terabithia, will play Calista, the girl who stays with Walker after he rescues her from a hostage situation in the first issue. The actress joins Charles S. Dutton, who was cast last month as Captain Cross, head of the homicide division.
Although FX is reportedly courting Friday Night Lights and Super 8 star Kyle Chandler to play Walker, there have been no announcements about the show's two leads. Expect movement on that front very soon, though, as Bendis says production is set to begin on the pilot "in just a few weeks."
The Powers pilot is written by Charles “Chic” Eglee, former executive producer of The Walking Dead, and directed by executive producer Michael Dinner (Justified, Sons of Anarchy). The network is looking to premiere the series in early 2012.
