Craig McCracken -- creator of Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls -- says he once had an idea for a crossover episode where Batman's arch-nemesis, the Joker, came to the City of Townsville. However, Warner Bros. ultimately rejected the pitch. On Twitter, McCracken was asked by a fan if any crossovers involving one of his shows had ever been left on the cutting room floor. "I wanted to do a PPG episode where Joker (the animated series version) came to Townsville and the Mayor was so starstruck with a famous villain in town he wouldn't let the girls stop him. WB said no when we asked."RELATED: Live-Action Powerpuff Girls, Naomi Series Land Pilot Orders at The CW

McCracken appears to be referring to the DC Animated Universe version of the Clown Prince of Crime, who was famously voiced by Mark Hamill in Batman: The Animated Series. Notably, in addition to shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Cartoon Network has been home to a number of series based on DC Comics characters over the years, including DCAU projects like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited -- the former of which featured the Joker in a few episodes.

McCracken's original version of The Powerpuff Girls premiered on Cartoon Network in 1998, running for a total of six seasons and concluding in 2005. Additionally, the eponymous heroes' origin story was told in a feature film, which hit theaters in 2002. Following a one-off special in 2014, Cartoon Network rebooted The Powerpuff Girls in 2016, with the new show running for three seasons and concluding in 2019.

The Powerpuff Girls are headed for another reboot at the moment, with The CW currently developing a live-action reimagining of the Cartoon Network series. It was recently reported that Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault would star as lead protagonists Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively. Interestingly, The CW is also currently home to a number of DC television shows, such as Superman & Lois, The Flash and Batwoman, among others. Meanwhile, McCracken is currently working on his new superhero animated series Kid Cosmic, which premiered its first season on Netflix last month.
