"Batman" himself Adam West will make a guest appearance on the NBC superhero sitcom "Powerless,” which imagines the life of humdrum office workers at a company that designs products to protect everyday people in a world filled with DC Comics heroes and villains. West will play Dean West, the chairman of Wayne Industries.

West will visit the Charm City-based company Wayne Security, itself a subsidiary of Wayne Industries, after a series of attacks on Gotham City reveal the need for budget cuts. Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) and Van Wayne (Alan Tudyk) will have to team up if they want to save their company from dissolution and its employees from unemployment.

According to the official character description,

Gotham comes to Charm City when the iconic Adam West, who played the role of Batman on television in the Sixties, guest stars in an upcoming episode of Powerless as Dean West, chairman of Wayne Industries. Following an attack on Gotham City, Wayne Industries has to make some cuts and Mr. West visits Charm City to deliver the bad news to Van and Emily. Will the dynamic duo of Van and Emily be able to save the team at Wayne Security, or are our Charm City Heroes destined for the unemployment line?

"'Powerless' is billed as DC's first comedy, but we'll always view Mr. West as the founding father of comedy in the DC Universe, thanks to his work in the original Batman television series," executive producers Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with a living legend.”

West first adopted the role of Batman in the 1960s television series “Batman,” which aired on the ABC network from January 12, 1966 to March 14, 1968. The show featured a very different tone, at least compared to the Dark Knight’s modern cinematic interpretations.

The series, which starred Burt Ward as Robin alongside West’s Batman, was purposefully irreverent and kitschy, making light of comic book stories and the perils faced by their heroes. The show championed various moral messages, like using one’s seat belt and eating three proper meals a day. In terms of action, the show is widely known for Batman’s excessive use of ridiculous gadgetry (shark repellent being the most egregious example) and comic peril (in one episode, the hero attempts to disarm a novelty-sized bomb along a crowded pier for several minutes straight).

West has had something of a Batman resurgence as of late. At New York Comic Con 2016, Batman fans were treated to the world premiere of “Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders,” a film that reunites West, Ward and Julie Newmar, who played Catwoman in the original series. West has previously stated he thinks now is the perfect time for a lighter “Batman” story.

"Powerless" airs weekly on NBC every Thursday at 8:30 pm ET and stars Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk, Ron Funches and Alan Tudyk.
