WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin #4 by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Katia Ranalli, and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

The history of Zordon, mentor and creator of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has been playing out in flashbacks through the pages of Mighty Morphin since the Power Rangers spinoff series began. So far, Zordon's past has highlighted just how he came to be so dedicated to his cause of protecting the innocent, though next to nothing of just what he has been protecting them from has been revealed.

If the Guardians of Eltar were successful in staving off such an incredible threat before, then hopefully they'll be able to once more, as Zordon's past appears to have just caught back up with his present.

Thousands of years ago, Zordon was among the ranks of the Guardians of Eltar, the earliest prototype of what would eventually become the Power Rangers. Zordon had given up some of his simple life on a farm out of a sense of duty to society, a way to give back to the universe for his life well lived already and whatever came of it after his service. Traveling to different worlds and living among their people helped to further shape Zordon into a compassionate and empathetic warrior for all people. While sparring back on Eltar with the Supreme Guardian Zophram, Zordon is told that he will no longer be sent on any away missions, much to his dismay. Believing he had done something wrong, Zordon begs for another chance to prove himself, but Zophram tells him that he isn't being demoted. In fact, Zordon will be staying where he is to act as Zophram's successor.

Zordon's natural leadership qualities and quick thinking make him perfect for the job, even if he isn't Zophram's right-hand man. From where Zophram sits, the threat of Dark Specter grows greater every single day. The dark lord is looking for something, some sort of weapon or power source, one that could disrupt the entire universe. Zophram's concerns rest entirely on the worst-case scenario, and if that day ever came, he's confident that Zordon is the one who should lead in his stead. There are still a lot of questions to be asked regarding what happened all those years ago, and in the present, someone has finally come along to ask them.

After yet another defeat at the hands of Lord Zedd, the Mighty Morphin team is forced to retreat in the face of an unstoppable new breed of Putty foot soldiers. Not a moment before they all surely would have been killed, the heroes are teleported back to the Command Center, but not by Zordon or Alpha. Their classmate Candice appears from the shadows, stepping out to explain herself while slowly returning to her true form as Zelya of Eltar. She doesn't know why Zordon was left in the dark about her presence on Earth, but she knows that her mission was to keep the Rangers alive no matter what.

She tells Zordon that the Third Eltarian War has come about, something which creates even more questions than there were before. It's unclear if this is connected to Dark Specter, but that wouldn't be surprising with the apparent gravity of the situation. Hopefully, between Zordon and Zelya there are some hard facts about just what is coming their way. If not, the least any of them can do is to stop keeping so many secrets, considering that hasn't helped at any point so far.
