WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin #12, available now from Boom! Studios.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have been left reeling from one overwhelming crisis to another. From hostile takeovers of their hometown to devastating betrayals within their own ranks, it doesn't seem like things could possibly get worse for the heroes. Of course, that is hardly the case, as the worst has only just begun. Even worse, there is no one left for the Rangers to turn to, as Zordon's leadership has left them alienated from the rest of the universe like never before.

The Power Rangers haven't had an easy go of things lately, but the arrival of the Guardians of Eltar has at least given them some relief from their troubles. While Zelya, the Bronze Guardian, has quickly become one of the Rangers' closest allies, she has also revealed one of the darkest truths there is for the heroes to face. After being kidnapped by Lord Zedd, Zelya was treated to the secret history of the Guardians rather than being subjected to any sort of torture. It was an unexpected turn for the situation to take, although not an unsurprising one once it became clear that the Guardians pose a far greater threat than Zedd ever could. After being told his story, Zelya was released by Zedd without harm, leaving her free to report back to Zordon and the Power Rangers what she had learned before confronting Supreme Guardian Zartus. While Zelya carries out her own investigation, Zordon plans to begin reaching out to his allies to prepare for the worst. Unfortunately, that will be easier said than done, even for the Mighty Morphin mentor.

As Kimberly points out in Mighty Morphin #12 by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sara Antonellini, Katia Ranalli and Ed Dukeshire, the Power Rangers are dangerously short on friends at the moment, and it all hinges on Zordon's own inept form of leadership. Over the past few months, things have grown particularly tense between the Rangers and the already few allies they have. Following Billy Cranston's admission that he stole the Green Dragon Power Coin before repairing it and its associated Ranger and Zord, Zordon effectively cut him off from the team entirely by barring him from the Command Center.

This new information also led Zordon to make vague threats towards Grace Sterling regarding her possession of the Power Coin within Promethea Labs, something that the jaded former Power Ranger did not take kindly. For all of the help she has provided the heroes, especially during Lord Zedd's takeover of Angel Grove, it was a slap to the face for Zordon to reach out to her in such an aggressive manner. Even worse, Grace and Billy aren't the only ones that the Rangers have alienated lately, even if the Mighty Morphin team doesn't know it.

Out in space, the Omega Rangers have already faced off against the S.P.D., due in no small part to Zordon having labeled them traitors for stealing Lord Drakkon from his imprisonment under Zordon's watch. Of course, the heroes only took such drastic action when Zordon refused to hear them out about the impossible threat posed by the Empyreals. It's that same sort of unwillingness to listen which has caused many of the problems the heroes are facing, and it doesn't seem to be a trait that Zordon has spent much if any time reflecting on. All of this coupled with the fact that the Guardians and their agents aren't actually the benevolent warriors they used to be has left the Rangers on their own in the face of multiple world-ending threats, something Kimberly is more than happy to remind Zordon is explicitly his fault. He might not be happy about her tone, but Kimberly is absolutely right about her assessment of the situation they're in as well as how they got there.

Zordon has always been a stoic figure with secrets of his own to keep, but as the Boom! Studios universe has shown those secrets are vastly more detrimental than anything else. His general unapproachableness when it comes to difficult conversations was what drove Billy to work with Grace in the first place, and that has spilled over into tensions with the rest of the team in just about every imaginable way. Now that Zordon has been called out for his recent spate of inept leadership, maybe the heroes can finally get around to mending things between themselves. Then again, that's probably something to deal with after they save the world, assuming they can in the first place.
