WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin #3 by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Katia Ranalli, and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

Angel Grove is, on most days, a beautiful place to live, where the sun is always shining and the people are always friendly. Well, they're usually friendly. An outdoor music festival that the off duty Rangers attend proves to be a tougher crowd than anticipated, and in truly shocking fashion. When the festival is crashed by Lord Zedd's newest foul creation, the Power Rangers leap into action, only to discover that they're ill-equipped to handle this latest threat. Luckily, they have a powerful new Green Ranger on their side. Unfortunately, they're about to discover that their mysterious new ally has a weakness that not only takes him out of this particular fight, but could prove to be a liability for them all in the near future.

His last encounter with the Green Ranger left Lord Zedd crippled momentarily, but once he got back on his feet he found himself burning with a new kind of energy. Green Chaos Energy to be exact. When the Green Ranger destroyed the Chaos Crystal that Zedd was using to fuel his Dark Rangers' incredible power, the shockwave left vast quantities of that energy embedded in Lord Zedd's body. With his newfound abilities, Zedd merged three of Finster's creations into a new generation of his Putty minions, sending the menacing Putty Prime to Angel Grove to interrupt the Rangers' day off. This particular enemy proved more than the Mighty Morphin team could handle on their own, and just as before the yet unmasked Green Ranger leaps into the fray. Unlike any other time the Rangers have seen him in action, though, the Green Ranger is unable to hold his ground. In fact, if it weren't for Billy quickly realizing what exactly the problem was, the new Ranger may not have made it out alive.

Putty Prime isn't the only threat that Zedd has unleashed on Angel Grove, with the majority of the bystanders at the festival revealing themselves to be Chaos Putties as well, leaving the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fighting a losing battle. Though the core team is at least capable of standing their ground, the Green Ranger is only able to take hit after hit from Zedd's supercharged minions.

Billy is the first to notice the beating that the Green Ranger is taking, figuring out that he's susceptible to the Green Chaos Energy fueling their assailants, and he tells the mysterious ally to retreat back to Promethea. Billy's conversation with the Green Ranger doesn't go unnoticed by Aisha, who is now certain that the secrets her teammate has been keeping are yet another betrayal suffered at the hands of one of their own. Billy is only doing what he thinks is right, and though his omissions are concerning, they aren't the only new worry that has arisen from the Rangers' battle in this issue.

The Green Ranger isn't the only hero forced to retreat. The Mighty Morphin team makes their own hasty escape after Putty Prime proved able to turn the Black Ranger Adam Park against the rest of them, forcing them to turn on their compatriot before teleporting back to the command center. They don't have much time to discuss what has happened or regroup before loading up into the Megazords to try again to stop the Chaos Putty invasion, which is more than the Green Ranger is capable of doing at the moment.

The fact that the Rangers' powerful new ally is so weak to the same type of energy from which he draws his own powers hasn't just put him down for the count in this particular fight, but it could very well be another avenue through which Lord Zedd can unleash his fury upon the heroes. With Putty Prime displaying the power to manipulate the others already, it only makes sense to wonder what a Chaos Energy fueled Zedd could do if he got his hands on the Green Ranger, a mantle that is already well associated with the ranks of the team's most vicious foes. Hopefully Billy will come to his senses and share what he knows before that frightful scenario becomes their reality.
