WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin #5 by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sara Antonellini, Katia Ranalli and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

The most recent string of shocking betrayals and new threats has left the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in desperate need of some serious help. Thankfully they have found that in the form of the newest Green Ranger. Their latest ally's identity may have been kept secret from the majority of Angel Grove, but a select few were privileged with that information. Apart from the ones pulling the Green Ranger's strings, one of the Mighty Morphin team's own was in on the big mystery. Not only did he know who was behind the mask, but Billy Cranston was personally responsible for putting them there.

It's been no secret to readers that Grace Sterling was behind the latest Sixth Ranger. It was also just as evident that Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger himself, had something to do with the new Green Ranger's appearance as well. Much like his teammate, Aisha suspected, Billy has been working closely with Grace on the matter. Not only was Billy able to repair and recharge the Green Dragon Power Coin, but he also upgraded the Green Ranger's armor, weapons, and Dragonzord as well. All of this intense dedication to detail is perfectly in line with Billy's character, but it's surprising to learn that he put as much effort as he did into convincing Grace to hand all of that power over to Matthew Cook in the first place.

Matthew has been friends with Billy and the rest of the Power Rangers for years, all of them have been close before their falling out over the team being unable to reveal their identities. Matthew already knew who they were, so when they remained silent after being confronted he turned his back on them.

Of course, things would eventually be patched up between Matthew and the group, though they never returned to their former tight-knit nature. Still, this temporary break in their relationship doesn't seem to have created any permanent rift between Billy and Matthew, or at least not in how they view one another. Billy still holds Matthew in such high regard, in fact, that he was the one who nominated him to become Promethea's Green Ranger, and when Grace objected, Billy pushed back.

Billy's time as a Power Ranger has seen him face off against truly terrifying threats and lethal foes, but he has still always been the soft spoken one of the bunch. His quiet demeanor isn't a trait that detracts from the impact his words have, yet the thought of him actively arguing for Matthew's place as a Power Ranger is still somewhat shocking. Considering he has worked behind the backs of his friends as well as Zordon to rebuild the Green Ranger from the ground up, maybe the idea that Billy was willing to put his foot down as hard as he could in regards to who would wield that power isn't the surprising part, but rather the possibilities that all of it has opened up instead.
