WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin #13, on sale now from Boom! Studios.

The Power Rangers have faced some daunting challenges in their time as Earth's foremost defenders, but nothing could have prepared them for what has just come crashing down on top of them. The Guardians of Eltar, the ancient precursors to the Rangers, have arrived and launched a full scale invasion on the world. Additionally, the Ranger's longtime mentor Zordon has fallen to a vicious assault, leaving the Rangers in a more precarious position than ever. Thankfully, they still have one ally who knows how to take charge of the situation, and in Mighty Morphin #13 (by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sara Antonellini, Katia Ranalli, and Ed Dukeshire), former Ranger Grace Sterling steps up to lead the heroes through the dark times ahead.

When the Guardians of Eltar announced their impending arrival on Earth, the Power Rangers never imagined that this visit would signal the beginning of a hostile invasion. Unfortunately, the Guardians have been overtaken by the tyrannical regime of Supreme Guardian Zartus and can no longer be considered allies. This is a major blow to the Power Rangers that costs them their mentor as well as their headquarters, the Command Center, forcing the team to regroup with their last allies at the tech company Promethea that is run by former Ranger Grace Sterling. Saving the world has now become the paramount concern, leading to Sterling assuming command of the team despite the tension that exists between her and the newer Rangers.

First introduced back in 2017's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #17 (by Kyle Higgins, Ryan Ferrier, Bachan, and Hendry Prasetya), Grace Sterling knows more about being a Power Ranger than almost anyone else. As one of Zordon's original Rangers formed in 1969, Grace led her team into action to take down the Green Psycho Ranger on the surface of the moon, only to watch almost all of her teammates defeated without really understanding the power that they were up against. This, along with Zordon stripping her of the Red Ranger title, led to Grace leaving the Rangers and forming Promethea.

The years since her departure have seen her work alongside the Power Rangers when needed despite her stoic perspective and stern demeanor. However, it is these qualities that the team seems to need the most at the moment, as they prepare to face one of their most grueling challenges yet after losing the guidance of Zordon.

As uncomfortable as it might be for some of the Rangers to accept her, Grace is just who they need in their corner as they prepare to fight back against the Eltarian invasion. This doesn't mean that the Rangers don't have capable leaders, but nothing that they have seen before could compare to the threat they are currently facing.

Even if Grace isn't the easiest person to get along with, she knows how to be as tough as the situation dictates, and that's exactly what the Rangers need as they head into war against Zartus' army.
