WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #1 by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Raul Angulo, and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

The Omega Rangers are headed for Earth after witnessing a mysterious new villain wipe out an entire planet. This celestial force calls themselves the Empyreal and the Omega Rangers need to find out everything Zordon knows about this mysterious new force. However, it's not Zordon who has the answers Jason, Zack, and Trini seek -- it's Zordon's prisoner Drakkon.

When the Omega Rangers arrive on Earth, they don't know Drakkon is imprisoned below Zordon's command center. When they're asking Zordon if he knows anything about the Empyreal, Zordon says he can't recall anything about them. Alpha 5 follow up their information request with a database search, which comes up empty. This is when Zordon tells them they can head into the brig to question Drakkon.

Once the Omega Rangers question Drakkon, they figure out that Drakkon was running from the Empyreal when he crashed into Earth's Moon on a comet. Drakkon tells them he's seen Empyreals rip Morphin Grid Emissaries into shreds like tissue paper. The Emissaries are powerful beings that represent the Morphin Masters and help regulate all of the various multi-verses in the Morphin Grid. This matches up with the type of power the Omega Rangers witnessed the Empyreal wield. The Empyreal wiped out 12 million souls in the blink of an eye. Now that the Omega Rangers know exactly what type of power they're going up against, they ask Zordon for his help, but their request is a drastic one. They ask Zordon to release Drakkon into their custody to help track down the Empyreal.

The Omega Rangers plead with Zordon, but Zordon still declines. The entire Morphin Grid is scarred from Drakkon's assault on the entire multiverse, and Zordon won't let Drakkon free to attempt it again. Jason believes Zordon is being short-sided with his decision because the Empyreal represents a cosmic-level threat beyond even what Drakkon represents. Jason, Zack, and Trini refuse to take no for an answer and hatch a scheme to break Drakkon out of his cell and use him to track down the Empyreal. The Omega Rangers teleport directly into the command center to spring Drakkon loose. After Drakkon is freed, Alpha confronts Omega Rangers and pleads with them to reverse their current course and put Drakkon back in his cell. The Power Rangers hold their ground and Drakkon attacks Alpha. Alpha is seriously injured but will make a full recovery. In the end, Zordon and Jason share an intense moment as Zordon vows to use all his power to bring justice to the Omega Rangers for their betrayal.

The Omega Rangers' decision to free Drakkon is going to have insane implications for the Power Rangers and Mighty Morphin stories. Drakkon is already moonlighting as the new Green Ranger thanks to Grace Sterling and Billy's efforts to restore the Green Power Coin. Now, Drakkon is serving as an unofficial Omega Rangers too.

Unbeknownst to everyone but Drakkon, Grace, and Billy, Drakkon is serving on both the Power Rangers and Omega Rangers' teams in completely different capacities. Drakkon is sure to take his newfound powers and freedom in interesting ways that could leave the balance of the Morphin Grid in peril once again.
