WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn #2 by Anthony Burch, Simone Ragazzoni and Raul Angulo, on sale now.

Much has certainly changed in Lord Drakkon's world since Kimberly Hart, formerly his Ranger Slayer, killed Drakkon and usurped his position as leader of the Ranger Sentinels and the Coinless. Now, Kim has to mediate not only between the two groups she leads but also her inner circle, comprised of friends and enemies alike.

But the situation becomes far more complicated when it's revealed the Unknown Ranger they found in the Deadlock in Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn #2 is Jason Lee Scott, the former Red Ranger.

Although they are overjoyed to see him, it quickly becomes apparent he has been out of the loop for some time, being used as a tool by Drakkon to gain an edge in his war against the Rangers, from torturing Jason daily to gain insight into their tactics to using Jason's Power Coin to create the first Ranger Sentinels. In the face of Drakkon's fail-safe, a world-ending alien even more formidable than Drakkon himself, Jason, ever the hero, immediately wanted to reform the Power Rangers by reclaiming their Power Coins from Drakkon's Diffuser, the source of the Ranger Sentinels' power.

It becomes even more obvious how unaware Jason was of what happened while he was out of commission. While Jason is correct that by sharing the power of the Coins among the people enhances the strength of the Ranger Sentinels, it is at the cost of dividing the overall power of the Coin itself. The more Ranger Sentinels created, the less powerful each one is. In Jason's eyes, the only logical solution to stopping this new threat is for all of the Rangers to reclaim their Coins and bring back the Power Rangers. With the full might of the Coins in the hands of experienced individuals, they stand a better chance of thwarting Eclipta.

The only problem with his plan is that to do so would trigger a war between the Coinless and the newly depowered Ranger Sentinels. Bad blood runs deep among the two groups, and even after Kim brought them together under her rule, it is all she can do to prevent them from attacking each other on the street, like Adam. Ironically, Jason is also a part of this problem, viewing the Ranger Sentinels as a mockery to the honor of the Power Rangers. But while he may have reasons, both logical and personal, for wanting to bring the Power Rangers back, he overlooks that doing so would start a war. If the Ranger Sentinels were rendered powerless, then nothing would stop the Coinless from seeking retribution now that the playing field has been leveled.

The reason the Coins grant so much power to an individual is they should be used for good, as power in the wrong hands could only lead to catastrophe. The very history of the Ranger Sentinels proves that this is correct, with their various crimes still festering in the hearts of the Coinless. However, it's essential to remember that while Ranger Sentinels chose to join Drakkon, many did so out of fear and defected the first chance they got. To believe one individual group is all evil is the first step to justifying terrible choices, but Jason, who has been hurt every day since his capture, may not be able to see past his desire to reform the Power Rangers and the deadly ramifications that could result.
