WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #13, available now from Boom! Studios.

The Power Rangers might be best known for their colorful costumes and upbeat attitudes, but they're no strangers to drama. In fact, lies, deceit, and betrayal seem to have become daily occurrences for the teenage heroes, and so has murder. The vicious assassination of their mentor, Zordon, in the first act of open war in the Eltarian invasion of Earth, was a huge event for the team recently, and they're still recovering.

With things more dire than ever, the two teams of Power Rangers -- Mighty Morphin and Omega -- have finally managed to put aside their differences and come together once more to defend their world. Now that they've reunited, it's only a matter of time before they save the universe, though even that might not be enough to save their friendships once the dust has settled.

In the fight against the Empyreal threat, nothing that the Omega Rangers do has mattered. Stealing away with their worst enemy only led them to betrayal, and seeking out their last living god ended in death. In the midst of a crumbling alien world, the Omegas could only hope for a miracle to save them, one which came in the form of the latest surprise Ranger.

Yale, the Omegas' ferocious feline companion, arrived to bring the team back from the brink of destruction as the new Blue Omega Ranger, though the shock of that revelation is still less than the impact left by their alien assailants. Once returned to their base on Safe Haven, the heroes finally have a minute to rest before getting back to work on defeating the Empyreals. Of course, they aren't the only ones staring down impossible threats, as the heroes learn in Power Rangers #13 (by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Raul Angulo, and Ed Dukeshire), when Trini uncovers distress calls from Earth waiting for them.

Throughout the course of their own adventures, the Omegas could have never imagined that things had become even worse at home. Tommy's call for help clearly wasn't an easy one to make, but for the Omega Rangers, the decision to head back doesn't require a second thought.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Omega feature

When the Omega Rangers arrive back in Angel Grove, they find their Mighty Morphin counterparts neck-deep in Eltarian soldiers in a battle for Promethea. With Zordon's death, the Command Center was lost, making Promethea the last stronghold left for the heroes. The choice to end up there under the command of Grace Sterling wasn't the easiest to make; or rather, it would have been under any other circumstances, and from the looks of things, reconciliation between the two sets of Rangers will be similarly difficult once the fighting is done.

Not only did the Omega Rangers lie to the others about their interstellar duties at the outset, they betrayed them by breaking Drakkon out of his imprisonment under the Command Center. This might have been done in the name of stopping the Empyreals, but it didn't make the relationship between the Mighty Morphin and Omega Rangers any more steady.

With the stakes as high as they are, it's understandable that all of those issues would be shelved for the time being, yet the tensions that arose from them aren't going to subside entirely just because of momentary desperation, no matter how phenomenal the resulting team-up is for fans.

Considering the years-long friendships that these characters enjoy from their time spent saving the world together, it's hard to imagine that anything could keep them from coming to terms with one another's choices in an amicable fashion before too long.

Then again, with so many enemies besetting them from every side, they might not ever get the chance to work out the issues between them. Here's hoping whatever problems they have with one another can be resolved before the next time they end up on the battlefield, especially when it could very well be their last.
