"Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" star R.J. Cyler has joined Lionsgate's "Power Rangers" film as the Blue Ranger, the studio announced via the film's official Instagram account.
Cyler, who played the titular character in "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl," will join the recently cast Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger and Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger.
According to an earlier report, Lionsgate’s “Power Rangers” film will follow the events of “Power Rangers Dino Charge,” the most recent version of the television show; the “Dino Charge” characters will appear in the opening sequence. Additionally, the film will shoot in Vancouver from January to April in 2016 and feature Scorpina, “the ruthless and dangerous minion of Rita Repulsa,” as an antagonist.
The 1993 television series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” followed teenagers Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Billy and Zack, who were chosen by the ancient being Zordon to defend Earth from attack against the forces of Rita Repulsa.
Directed by Dean Israelite, “Power Rangers” morphs into theaters Jan. 13, 2017.
