WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin #11, available now from Boom! Studios.

On all fronts, the Power Rangers are in the midst of absolute crisis. Out in the cosmos, the Omega Rangers are desperate to find any edge over the seemingly unstoppable Empyreal threat, and things aren't much easier for the Mighty Morphin team back on Earth. Apart from Lord Zedd's latest attack, there is also no small amount of strife within the team itself.

And as Mighty Morphin #11, by Ryan Parrot, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sara Antonellini, Katia Ranalli and Ed Dukeshire reveals, Blue Ranger Billy Cranston may be nearing the end of his time with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers might, as he finds himself drawn closer to former Ranger Grace Sterling and further away from Zordon.

Over the past few issues, it's become clear that Billy effectively made Matthew Cook into the new Green Ranger for Sterling, which ratcheted the tension between him and his teammates to an all-time high. As far as Zordon is concerned, stealing the Dragon Coin and providing Grace Sterling with her very own Power Ranger far is far worse than any good that has come of Billy's actions. Thankfully, none of his fellow Rangers seem to feel the same way, but that doesn't change the fact that Billy will likely be stripped of his Blue Ranger status once more pressing concerns have been addressed. The others might be optimistic, but Billy seems resigned to the idea that he will no longer be part of the team. Then again, not being on the team isn't the same as not being a superhero, and Billy already has the know-how to make new Power Rangers.

Much like he has been for months on end now, Billy finds himself hard at work at Promethea Labs after meeting with his friends. He's been working on a secret project, one that he refuses to share even with Grace Sterling, although she proves to be uncharacteristically understanding of his privacy. Rather than press the matter or become suspicious, Grace puts her faith in Billy and lets him have his way in the kind of show of support that he rarely if ever got from Zordon. On her way out, Grace reminds Billy that he will always have a home at Promethea no matter how things turn out between him and the Rangers. Now that his time with the Rangers may very well end soon, the chances of him taking Grace up on that offer are greater than ever.

While remaining part of the Power Rangers is becoming increasingly unlikely, doing so would likely only stifle Billy in his endeavors. Zordon would have never let him work on the Dragon Coin the way he could at Promethea, and he would certainly never let Billy experiment with Lord Zedd's tech behind closed doors. Grace, on the other hand, has supplied Billy with everything he has needed to rebuild the Green Ranger into something better than ever. Though he doesn't have another Power Coin laying around to experiment on, Billy wouldn't actually need one to make a connection to the Morphin Grid if he wanted to and had the resources available, and Promethea's labs seem to have everything he would need to complete that process.

While Billy may be a foundational part of the Ranges, a move to Promethea would likely be a better use of the full scope of his talents. Billy has already proven how much more he can accomplish when he isn't being micromanaged or second-guessed both in and out of the field, and Grace doesn't do that. While she has been guilty of handholding her recruits in the past, Billy has earned her respect and trust in ways that few can. If he can't patch things up with Zordon, it wouldn't be surprising to see Billy take an extended leave at Promethea.
