Supergirl is one of DC's longest-lived and popular powerhouse superheroines. She is the cousin of Superman, and she has done more than enough to be respected as a superhero in her own right. Kara Danvers, or Kara Zor-El, is a one-of-a-kind and beloved DC icon who is a staple of the universe and even spawned a successful ongoing television series.

That said, Kara isn't actually that one-of-a-kind. There is another Supergirl - or, well, a Power Girl. Kara Zor-L from Earth-2 crossed over into Prime Earth during Crisis on Infinite Earths and has since become a leading member of the Justice Society of America and a popular and beloved DC staple in her own right. She has since gone onto team up with Huntress (Robin from Earth-2) and even Harley Quinn. Now, the question becomes, who is the better Super/Power Girl?

10 POWER GIRL: She's A Leader

Power Girl - JSA

In the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe (where Power Girl isn't technically Kryptonian anymore, but whatever), Power Girl became a staple member of the Justice Society of America on Black Canary's recommendation. She stuck with the group through many battles and, after the events of Infinite Crisis, reformed the team and was elected its chairperson. When the Society became stifling for her, she led a splinter group of young heroes called the All-Stars to enact justice with the new generation.

9 SUPERGIRL: She's A Symbol Of Hope

Supergirl DC

Supergirl enjoys the benefit of wearing the Super-S, meaning that even her costume is an iconic symbol of hope. However, Supergirl is a symbol of hope in her own right. She is upbeat and cheery (at least in her pre-Flashpoint and post-Rebirth incarnations), and she's overcome great challenges to become the hero she is meant to be. She's an all-around endearing and lovable superhero, and she's easily among DC's best and brightest.

8 POWER GIRL: She's Got An Attitude

However, Power Girl not being a member of the Superfamily allows her to shine in ways Supergirl cannot. In other words, the lack of "S" allows Power Girl to have more of an attitude. She's not upholding some grand tradition; she's her own hero and is able to carve out a legacy in any way she sees fit. She can get angry, talk smack, and seek justice in her own manner.

7 SUPERGIRL: She Was Trained By The Amazons

In her post-Crisis on Infinite Earths introduction, Supergirl was found by Superman and Batman later into their careers, and they take her to Themyscira to help her acclimate to life on Earth. Here, Supergirl receives training from the Amazons and Wonder Woman in particular.

She also develops a friendship with the Harbinger, which brings the Crisis on Infinite Earths thing full circle (for those who don't know, Supergirl actually died during Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Harbinger was introduced during and was a major player in Crisis). The Amazonian training means Supergirl is a skilled fighter, even more so than Superman himself.

6 POWER GIRL: She Survived The Deaths Of Two Worlds

Being from Earth-2, Power Girl has seen the death of her homeworld twice. First in Krypton, and second in her native universe's Earth. In the New 52/Rebirth continuity, she remembers losing her Earth as well. Power Girl and Huntress were sent away from Earth-2 while it came under attack by Steppenwolf and the forces of Apokolips. They had to start fresh on Earth-1 and cope with losing everyone they ever loved. The trauma inherent in that is inconceivable, and it certainly shaped Power Girl into the hero she's become. She and Huntress later returned to Earth-2 and helped restart the civilization after the survivors abandoned the planet.

5 SUPERGIRL: She's A Scientist

Unlike Superman, Supergirl actually grew up on Krypton, and it wasn't until she was almost an adult that she was sent to Earth. Kara was born before Kal-El, but her body was in the stasis pod that brought her to Earth longer than Kal was in his. As such, Kal-El is physically older than Kara. During her time on Krypton, Supergirl helped her father, Zor-El, and became educated in the ways of Kryptonian science during that time. She's been able to apply those talents on Earth and has shown a quicker understanding of these subjects than Kal-El.

4 POWER GIRL: She Started Her Own Company

Power Girl

A constant for Power Girl across both continuities is is her tech company. Starrware was a personal project for Power Girl, whose civilian identity is Karen Starr. In pre-Flashpoint, she cultivated it over time until it became a major firm; in post-Flashpoint, she and Huntress acquired rare metals and bought or salvaged advanced technology to make her company a cutting edge tech giant--which shows an ingenuity and creativity all its own.

3 SUPERGIRL: She Overcame The Influence Of Darkseid

After being found by Superman and Batman and spending time on Themyscira, Supergirl is found by Darkseid and the forces of Apokolips. She is brought back to Apokolips and becomes Darkseid's newest and deadliest warrior.

Of course, Superman and Batman don't leave abandon Supergirl, and the two go to save her from Darkseid. After a fierce battle, they are able to help Supergirl fight off Darkseid's brainwashing and return with her to Earth. Darkseid follows, and Superman and Supergirl team up to bring down Darkseid.

2 POWER GIRL: She Saved Supergirl

After the defeat of H'el by Superman, Superboy, and Supergirl, Kara came down with Kryptonite poisoning. During this time, Supergirl was uniquely vulnerable and was beaten by an alien creature. Power Girl arrived to save the day, taking Supergirl back to Sanctuary and treating the Kryptonite poisoning, restoring Supergirl to 100%.

1 SUPERGIRL: She's Investigating What Really Happened To Krypton

After the arrival of Rogol Zaar, Superman and Supergirl discover that Krypton's death may not have been a natural disaster. Instead, a group of unknown malefactors may have conspired to see Krypton destroyed and sent the monstrous Rogol Zaar to do the job. While Superman still had a number of situations to attend to, Supergirl went out into space with Krypto the Superdog to track down what really happened to Krypton in the hopes of finally avenging her fallen people.
