The hit series "Game of Thrones" kills off actors at a prodigious rate, freeing up those actors to pursue other acting projects. For the actors that are not killed off, the large breaks in production between seasons afford them a similar opportunity to test the waters of projects on the large and small screen. As it turns out, many of those projects are ones that involve comic book properties and related genre fair.

They may not end up winning the “Game of Thrones,” but many of these actors have attached themselves to properties that will make enough money to fill the Iron Bank of Bravos. In this list, we look at projects that have not yet been released that the actors have completed, are going to soon film or are strongly rumored to be filming. These are the top 15 films and shows that we can’t wait to see.

15 INHUMANS

Iwan-Rheon-as-Ramsey-Game-of-Thrones

Welsh actor Iwan Rheon made his debut as Ramsey Bolton in the the second episode of season three, “Dark Wings, Dark Words.” For three seasons, Ramsey spread his brutal brand of violence and sadism across the North. The legitimized bastard son of Roose Bolton, Ramsey was placed as heir apparent to his father, the new Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North. When Roose’s wife Walda Frey became pregnant and gave birth to a son, Ramsey felt his position threatened and murdered his father, step-mother and half-brother. Ramsey seized the North for himself, but his rule was short, as Jon Snow defeated Ramsey in the “Battle of the Bastards.”

Rheon is joining the cast of Marvel’s "Inhumans" television show, which will air on ABC in the fall of 2017 after the series debuts its first two episodes for two weeks in September 2017 on IMAX screens. Rheon is set to play the role of Maximus, a member of the Inhuman royal family and brother to Blackbolt. Maximus made his debut in “Fantastic Four” #47 in 1966. A figure who mixes genius level intelligence, madness and mind control powers, Maximus is a formidable ally or adversary. With a history of attempts to usurp the throne, it seems likely Rheon will get to display some of the villainy he brought to Ramsey in this new role.

14 FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY (LENA HEADEY)

Lena-Headey-on-the-Iron-Throne

British actress Lena Headey, as Cersei Lannister, has been a key player in “Game of Thrones” since the series premiered, ending season six on the throne. The length of her reign and the shape of her kingdom are yet to be revealed in seasons seven and eight. Headey has already made her share of appearances in comic book entertainment, starring in the televisions series “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” (2008-2009), the animated Marvel series “The Super Hero Squad Show” (2009), "300" (2006). “Dredd” (2012) and “300: Rise of an Empire” (2014).

She has joined the cast of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Fighting With My Family,” a comedy about a family chasing the dream of professional wrestling stardom. Headey has shown her skill as a political fighter, but it will be interesting to see if she adds suplexes and leg drops to her acting repertoire. A release date for “Fighting With My Family” has not yet been announced.

13 KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD (AIDEN GILLEN, MICHAEL MCELHATTON)

roose-bolton-and-littlefinger-at-winterfell

The Irish actors Aiden Gillen (Petyr Baelish) and Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton) portrayed less than savory schemers on “Game of Thrones.” Gillen’s Littlefinger is still playing the game as we enter enter season seven, trying to manipulate his relationship with Sansa Stark to his benefit by turning her against Jon Snow. McElhatton’s Lord Bolton, meanwhile, has exited the stage after being murdered by his own son in the sixth season of the series.

Both actors are joining Guy Ritchie’s "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword," which stars Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law. Gillen will be playing a character named Goosefat Bill while McElhatton will be playing Jack’s Eye. Ritchie is a unique director who has recently worked with both Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. and Superman actor Henry Cavill in “Sherlock Holmes” and ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” respectively. Ritchie’s bold style makes this re-imagining of the King Arthur legend a very interesting one to check out. The film is currently in post-production with a release date of May 12, 2017.

12 KRYPTON (IAN MCELHINNEY)

Ian-Mcelhinney-As-Barristan-game-of-thrones

Veteran Irish actor Ian McElhinney played the legendary knight Barristan Selmy on “Game of Thrones.” Barristan the Bold, as he was known, filled the history of the Kingsguard with his service to multiple Kings. McElhinney recently had a small role in a huge film in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” as the Rebel General Jan Dodonna.

Now McElhinney is set to travel to a whole new world in the SyFy television pilot, "Krypton." McElhinney will play Val-El, the grandfather of Seg-El, who is the star of the series and an ancestor of Kal-El, better known as Superman. The premiere date for Krypton is not yet known. Krypton was created by veteran writer David S. Goyer, who, among other things, was the writer behind Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, as well as “Man of Steel” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” We don’t yet know the status of the show beyond a pilot being filmed and no premiere date has been officially announced.

11 KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE (PEDRO PASCAL)

Oberyn Martell speaks with Tyrion in Game of Thrones.

The Chilean-American actor Pedro Pascal stole hearts and broke them as the short-lived but memorable Oberyn Martell. Appearing in seven episodes of the fourth season of “Game of Thrones,” Pascal brought both emotional range and physical dynamism to the role of the Dornish Prince.

Pascal is set to join the cast to the sequel of 2014’s "Kingsman: The Secret Service." Both the original and the sequel are directed by Matthew Vaughn and based in the world created Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons in their comic book series, “The Secret Service.” While the films draw inspiration from the comics, they also feature a cast of new characters. Pascal joins the star-studded cast as a character named Jack Daniels, who is an original in the universe, created for the sequel. The premise of the film involves the British spies led by Eggsy (Taron Egerton) having to work with American counterparts. Given Pascal’s character's name, it is likely he is one of these American agents. “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” hits theaters on October 6th, 2017.

10 NEW MUTANTS (MAISIE WILLIAMS)

Maisie-Williams-As-Arya-Game-of-Thrones

Bursting on the scene as a 14-year old in “Game of Thrones,” fans have seen Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark go through one of the most compelling story arcs in the series. Mixing familial devotion with the pragmatic ruthlessness taught to her by the Hound and assassin skills by the Faceless Men, Arya is a very dangerous character. She returned to Westros in a dramatic way at the end of season six, exacting revenge on Walder Frey for the Red Wedding. Williams has multiple projects in development, but the one we are most interested in seeing is at this stage still only a rumor.

As part of Fox’s X-Men universe of films, writer/directer Josh Boone's "X-Men: New Mutants" is a film based on the teenage mutant team of students at Xavier’s Academy. Williams is rumored to be playing Rahne Sinclair, aka Wolfsbane, a Scottish mutant with the ability to transform into a wolf. Debuting in Marvel 1982’s “Marvel Graphic Novel” Volume 1: Number 4, Sinclair was an original member of the New Mutants team and one with tons of emotional complexity for Boone to play with. Recently, Boone shared artwork of Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane on Twitter, setting the rumor mills into overdrive. No release date has yet been announced for “X-Men: New Mutants.”

9 THE PREDATOR (ALFIE ALLEN)

Alfie-Allen-as-Theon-Game-of-Thrones

English actor Alfie Allen has had one of the most terrifying transformations across the seasons of “Game of Thrones," from lecherous ward of the Starks to betrayer of the man he considered a brother in Rob, to the broken and mutilated Reek. He now finds himself supporting his sister’s claim to the Salt Throne and allied with Dany in the effort to conquer Westros.

Allen has joined the cast of Shane Black’s "Predator" sequel film, “The Predator." It is a movie franchise that spawned its own line of Dark Horse Comics, beginning with the four issue miniseries “Predator” in 1989-1990 by writer Mark Verheiden and artists Chris Warner and Ron Randall. Allen is set to join cast members such as Olivia Munn and Boyd Holbrook, who are coming off two big comic book films, “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Logan,” respectively. Fans of the original 1987 film should be excited that Black, an original cast member, is shooting to make this film feel much like the original, complete with an R-rating. "The Predator" is scheduled for a February 9, 2018 release.

8 THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS (NATHALIE EMMANUEL, KRISTOFER HIVJU

Fast And Furious 8

Nathalie Emmanuel is used to being around folks with powerful rides as Danny’s right-hand woman, Missandei. Emmanuel made her debut in season three of Game of Thrones and is now on her way to Westros with Danny at the head of an army. Kristofer Hivju plays the wild Tormund Giantsbane and similarly made his debut in the third season. Hivju was a real season stealer in the latest season, with his affection towards Brienne and his support of Jon Snow.

Both Emmanuel and Hivju are going from one mega-franchise to a another, joining the eighth installment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise, “The Fate of the Furious.” Emmauel will be returning to the role of Ramsey, which she played in “Furious 7.” Hivju, meanwhile, will be playing a new character named Rhodes. Emmanuel is seen throughout the trailers for the film, but we have yet to get a real look at Hivju in the film. "The Fate of the Furious" will hit theaters on April 14, 2017.

7 THE MAN WHO KILLED QUIXOTE (JONATHAN PRYCE)

jonathan-pryce-game-thrones

A late addition to the Game of Thrones cast, veteran Welsh actor Jonathan Pryce joined the show for seasons five and six as the High Sparrow, a religious leader who took King’s Landing by storm until his explosive demise. The High Sparrow was a catalyst for changes in King’s Landing that ended with Cersei seizing the throne.

Pryce will be going from portraying one man of faith to another, starring alongside Adam Driver in Terry Gilliam’s “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.” The premise of this film, and the 17 year struggle of Monty Python writer Terry Gilliam to get it made, has us intrigued. Incorporating a time-traveling Londoner into the 17th century story of “Don Quixote” could provide a unique retelling of Miguel de Cervantes’ classic story about a knight on a quest to restore chivalry with his loyal companion Sancho Panza. “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” is currently in pre-production for a tentative 2018 release.

6 HAN SOLO (EMILIA CLARKE)

emilia-clarke-in-hansolo-star-wars-anthology

Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen ended season six of “Game of Thrones” on a high note. Dany set sail at the head of an army of Dothraki, the Unsullied and with the ships of a faction of the Iron Born and Dorne. In season seven, she is set to invade Westros and reclaim her family’s throne.

Clarke may be prepared to conquer a whole different galaxy in her next project, co-starring in the untitled Han Solo stand-alone film. She joins a cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Clarke’s role is not yet known, but she will be a central character in the film and was included in a cast shot in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon released in late February, 2017. Set before the events of “Star Wars: A New Hope,” the untitled film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller with a script from Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. It is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.

5 X-MEN SUPERNOVA (SOPHIE TURNER)

sophie-turner-as-jean-grey-xmen-apocalypse

Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark has had a pretty rough six seasons on “Game of Thrones,” from the captivity of King Joffrey, helping lead to her father’s death, being forced to wed Tyrion, marrying and being subjected to the cruelties of Ramsey, and finally emerging under the apprenticeship of Littlefinger as a powerful leader of the Stark family, before being supplanted by her bastard brother Jon.

Turner made her big budget film debut in 2016’s "X-Men: Apocalypse" as Jean Grey. While Turner was not the lead in that X-Men film, she may be set to be the star of the next one in the series. Turner recently confirmed that they will begin filming sometime in 2017 before she starts work on the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones.” The rumored and possible working title of the film is “X-Men: Supernova,” and it could be a retelling of the Dark Phoenix saga. Veteran writer and producer Simon Kinberg is reportedly in talks to direct the film. No release date has been announced for this film.

4 JUSTICE LEAGUE (CIARAN HINDS)

Mance Rayder looks on during a scene in Game of Thrones

Irish actor Ciaran Hinds only appeared in five episodes spread across three seasons, but the King Beyond the Wall served a pivotal role in uniting the Free Folk and moving them south towards the wall. This allowed events to unfold setting Jon Snow on the path towards his destiny.

Hinds is joining the DC cinematic universe as the villain Steppenwolf, a Jack Kirby creation who debuted in "New Gods" #7 in 1972. The uncle of Darkseid and a member of Darkseid’s elite, he possesses superhuman strength, stamina and durability. Whether it will be the CGI creation that we saw in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" or if the character will be revised to feature Hinds physically is not yet known. “Justice League” is currently in post-production for a November 17, 2017 release date.

3 THE DEFENDERS (FINN JONES, JESSICA HENWICK)

Finn-Jones-Netflix-Iron-Fist

Finn Jones’ turn as the knight Loras Tyrell has come to an end in the latest season of “Game of Thrones,” while Jessica Henwick’s Nymeria Sand is still alive and kicking after being sparsely used in season six. The former co-stars are reuniting on the next Marvel television series on Netflix, "Iron Fist." Jones stars as the title character, whose real name is Danny Rand. Iron Fist was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in 1974’s “Marvel Premiere” #15.

Henwick is playing Colleen Wing, the descendant of a line of Japanese Samurai who is trained in the old ways of combat and becomes an ally of Iron Fist. Wing also debuted in 1974 in “Marvel Premiere” #19 by Doug Moench and Larry Hama. All 13 episodes of Iron Fist will drop on March 17, 2017. Both Jones and Henwick are set to reprise these new roles in Marvel’s “The Defenders” series, also on Netflix. “The Defenders” will unite the Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist series and characters. “The Defenders” will be released later in 2017 but no official release date has been announced.

2 STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (GWENDOLINE CHRISTIE)

Captain Phasma in Star Wars

English actress Gwendoline Christie quickly became a fan favorite as the unconventional female knight Brienne of Tarth on “Game of Thrones.” Brienne has exhibited both bravery and honor since season two of the series. As one of the few characters in possession of a Valyrian steel sword and with the White Walkers on their way, she almost certainly will play a key role in the climactic battles of the series.

Christie joined the cast of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as the First Order stormtrooper commander, Captain Phasma. Her character quickly was a fan favorite even before the release of the film, with an aesthetic design that exuded cool, clad head-to-toe in chrome armor, a matching blaster-rifle and a cape. While Phasma’s role in "The Force Awakens" was relatively minor, she is set to return in the sequel, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," which will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.

1 AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (PETER DINKLAGE)

Tyrion drinking wine.

The final name on our list is another of the original cast members of Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage, who portrays Tyrion Lannister. Tyrion the Imp has been one of the most well traveled characters in the show, colliding with various characters in the North, the South and beyond the shores of Westeros. With a humor and wit as stiff as the drinks he so often quaffs, Tyrion is one of the undisputed stars of the show.

Dinklage is rumored to be part of one of the biggest movies of all time and without doubt the biggest comic book movie ever, "Avengers: Infinity War." This Marvel Studios giant will bring together heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the long-awaited confrontation with the villain Thanos, played by Josh Brolin. Combining the casts of the Avengers with the cast of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films is enough to already have us excited, but the addition of Dinklage takes it even higher. While his participation in the film has not officially been confirmed and his role is yet unknown, his acting skills, combined with the scope and scale of this movie, makes it our most anticipated choice.
