Now that the cast has been announced for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot, it's time to start speculating about who stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon might play.

HitFix has some details, although Sony Pictures requested the site scale back the information. Luckily, Slashfilm was there to break the character descriptions:

  • Erin Gabler is an academic on the tenure track at Columbia. Her former colleague and co-author is …
  • Abby Bergman, who’s more on the pop parapsychology side of things, and pursues ghosts for a living.
  • Jillian is Abby’s ghost-hunting partner.
  • Patty is an MTA employee who comes across the main ghost.

While nothing has been confirmed, HitFix posits that Wiig plays Erin, Jones is Abby, McKinnon is Jillian and McCarthy will play Patty. Additionally, Peter Dinklage might portray "a creepy mechanical genius."

The film will also include a debunker named Martin Heiss, a role Feig reportedly wants for franchise veteran Bill Murray. Murray's back-and-forth attitude toward a third Ghostbusters film is well-documented, but in September he seemed at least somewhat intrigued by the then-rumored reboot. “I’m fine with it,” he said. “I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too.”

Feig has said he'd welcome appearances by the original cast, whom he described as his "comedy heroes." "It would just be in different roles now," he said, "but it would be fun to figure out how to do that.”

The new Ghostbusters arrives July 22, 2106.
