Pokédex entries add some flavor to a Pokémon's lore in the form of background information. The descriptions for a particular creature vary across the Pokémon games, with some being more believable than others. This information may make fans view a certain Pokémon in a whole new light.

While Pokédex entries can be sad, cute, or downright bizarre, some of the more outlandish entries defy any kind of logic. In the anime, the entries are typically more toned-down compared to the video games. As time has gone on and more games have been released, certain entries have become more and more bizarre and harder to believe.

10 Chesnaught Makes Mincemeat Of Tanks And Bombs

A Chesnaught roaring in the Pokemon anime

According to its Pokémon X entry, Chesnaught's "Tackle is forceful enough to flip a 50-ton tank." This does not bode well for any Pokémon that weighs less than 50 tons, which is all of them. It hardly needs its other moves, as it would win against any Pokémon that isn't immune to Normal moves with Tackle alone.

Chesnaught's Pokémon Y entry is slightly less outlandish but nonetheless bombastic, stating that it can "withstand a bomb blast." Considering the Spiny Armor Pokémon is part Grass-type and weak to Fire, this is quite the claim.

9 Entei Can Make Volcanoes Erupt With Its Roar

Pokémon Black and White's Pokédex entries have it that when Entei roars, "a volcano erupts somewhere around the globe." A volcano erupting nearby when it roars is one thing, but the phenomenon occurring on the other side of the world is another.

The Ruby and Sapphire entries state that the Legendary Pokémon was actually "born in the eruption of a volcano." This must mean that Entei is immune to Fire, but it's only resistant to it. In any case, the Volcano Pokémon has an extremely powerful bark and some very durable fur.

8 Kadabra Used To Be A Human Boy

In this most Kafkaesque Pokédex entry from FireRed, Kadabra supposedly used to be a little boy. "It happened one morning - a boy with extrasensory powers awoke in bed transformed into Kadabra." It sounds like the beginning of a very strange tale.

There are other instances of people turning into Pokémon, including Ash turning into a Pikachu in the anime, but there's usually a little more to it than them just suddenly transforming one day. Besides, there have been plenty of characters in the games and anime with psychic powers who didn't turn into Pokémon.

7 Yveltal Is More Powerful In Death Than In Life

The Pokémon Y entry for the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal states that "When its life comes to an end, it absorbs the life energy of every living thing and turns into a cocoon once more." Yveltal essentially holds the fate of the entire world in its wings.

It also seems beyond impressive for something that has died to have the power to absorb so much energy. One thing's for certain, anyone would be foolish to try to slay this Pokémon.

6 Magcargo Is Hotter Than Lava

According to its Pokédex entry in Pokémon Sapphire, "Magcargo's body temperature is approximately 18,000 degrees F." That's hotter than lava. It's not quite as hot as the sun, but if this entry is to be believed, it's certainly one of the hottest things on the planet.

A creature radiating such heat would merely have to touch an opponent to render them unable to fight. It would also make attacking the Lava Pokémon difficult without getting burned, but plenty of Pokémon seem to be able to do just that.

5 Metang Strikes Fear Into The Hearts Of Jet Pilots

Metang's Pokédex entry for Diamond and Pearl begins with a pretty mundane fact, that "It is formed by two Beldum joining together." It then escalates rather quickly with the sentence "Its steel body won't be scratched if it collides with a jet."

If a jet can't lay a scratch on Metang, no other Pokémon can. Surely, with such a strong body, Metang would be able to withstand most physical attacks, but it can be damaged by Fighting, Bug, and Ground moves. So, a jet won't make a dent, but a Bug Bite from a Pineco will.

4 Houndoom's Bad Breath Will Never Leave You

Apparently, there is no balm in existence that can soothe the pain of being burned by Houndoom. The Dark/Fire-type's Pokédex entry from Pokémon Gold states that "If you are burned by the flames it shoots from its mouth, the pain will never go away."

This was expanded upon slightly with Platinum's entry, which says "The flames it breathes when angry contain toxins." Forever is a long time to be in pain, and no one would want to mess with a Houndoom, let alone own one, after finding this information out.

3 Mimikyu Is Hiding Something Lethal Beneath Its Rag

Jesse's Mimikyu in Pokémon.

According to Mimikyu's Pokémon Sun entry, "A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock." It's hard to imagine what's beneath the Disguise Pokémon's rag to make it so vile as to end someone's life simply by looking at it.

Perhaps this scholar of a particularly nervous disposition or the same thing happen to anyone who saw the real Mimikyu. Whatever the case, it's hard to imagine just what lies beneath that crude Pikachu costume.

2 Ponyta Would Destroy High Jump Records At The Olympics

Ponyta in Pokemon Legends Arceus standing on the grass

Ponyta doesn't have particularly powerful-looking legs, but its Pokédex entry from Pokémon Stadium reveals just how strong they are. Ponyta is "Capable of jumping over the Eiffel Tower in a single giant leap." That's some Hulk-level leg strength, and the Fire Horse Pokémon isn't even an evolved form.

The fully-evolved Blaziken can only leap over a 30-story building, which is one-third the size of the Eiffel Tower. Ponyta's entry goes on to say "Its hooves are ten times harder than diamonds," which is an equally astonishing tidbit.

1 Tyranitar Is A Nuisance To Cartographers

Tryanitar in Pokemon anime looking sideways

Tyranitar's Pokédex entry for Diamond and Pearl states that "If it rampages, it knocks down mountains and buries rivers. Maps must be redrawn afterward." This is quite an extraordinary claim. It is not known how often Tyranitar rampages, but it must have happened at least once.

This would be an incredible feat for even the biggest Pokémon of all, which Tyranitar is not. In fact, there are dozens of Pokémon that are both larger and weigh more than the Armor Pokémon.
