There are plenty of impressive-looking Pokémon in every region. Fan-favorites like Mewtwo have immense power to go along with their fearsome looks. There are even some deceptively delicate Pokémon, like Chancey and Togekiss, who can pack quite a punch. Then there are the Pokémon that sadly can't pack a punch.

These Pokémon may look like formidable opponents, but when one breaks down their stats and abilities, one can see that they are rather weak, or at least be a lot less of a challenge than initially expected. There may be ways to utilize them to your advantage, but for the most part, these ten Pokémon have a bark a lot worse than their bite.

10 Pinsir

Pinsir

Pinsir is one of the more intimidating looking bug-type Pokémon out there, but that doesn't stop this creature from having the same weaknesses as a Caterpie. Attacks are not very effective against fighting, flying, poison, ghost, steel, fire, fairy, and dark types. Pinsirs will also take double damage from flying, rock, and fire-type moves. This bug-type is also incapable of learning the most powerful move for bugs, Megahorn.

So, despite his mouth looking like something from an H.G. Wells nightmare, Pinsir is not a bug to be scared of. Also, with the release of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, players found an alternative bug-type to use instead of Pinsir, Heracross, who was a formidable Pokemon for Ash until he forgot about it.

9 Charizard

Pokémon Ash and Charizard

Yes, Charizard is certainly a fan-favorite, and within the television show, Charizard can be a real beast for Ash (when he decides to actually show his power). However, Charizard notoriously emerges from the toughest starter to use in the Kanto region, Charmander, who faces off against Brock (rock-types) and Misty (water-types) early in the game. Charizard does not even learn how to fly right away and is not a dragon-type.

The biggest gripe people seem to have with him is there are so many other fire-type options with better abilities, stats, and just overall usefulness. Also, as a dual fire and flying type, Charizard is extremely susceptible to rock-type Pokémon. Though if we're talking mega evolutions, his two forms certainly give him a new fighting edge.

8 Banette

A Banette leaps into battle in Pokemon

This possessed stuff toy may look scary, but its intimidation factor is lessened by its many weak points. Despite the marionette having a mega evolution, Banette's base stats really leave a lot to be desired. The attack stat is Banette's best base stat, which is only 115, and its base HP, special defense, and speed all start in the 60s.

Having low health and likely being unable to attack first due to its speed means Banette is likely to go down fast before it can pull off any effective ghost-type moves. Get a Gengar instead. Not only are they more intimidating, but they have the stats to back them up.

7 Slaking

Slaking from pokemon lounging in a forest

Slaking, the final evolution of Slakoth, has all the makings of a high-tier Pokémon with an impressive set of states. However, he's much more likely to be curled up sleeping next to Ash's Charizard and Snorlax than busting out any power moves.

Unfortunately, like a few other Pokémon on this list, Slaking has been tagged with an ability that puts most players off from using him, and for good reason. His ability, Truant, stops him from using a move every other turn. So players need to hope his hide is strong enough to take a few hits while he's napping his life away.

6 Silvally

Pokémon Silvally Attacking

It's odd to consider Silvally a legendary Pokémon when this normal-type should be swapped out based on its stats alone. The base stats for this synthetic Pokémon are exactly the same across the board, giving it no particular advantages and just making it average at everything.

At least it gets a speed boost in comparison to its former form, Type: Null.

5 Forretress

Anime Forretress-In-Pokémon

Just the name alone, reminiscent of "Fortress," highlights this Pokémon's strongest factor: it has a tough defense to crack. However, besides its impressive defense, which does not extend to its special defense, and the benefits of using its Rapid Spin attack and setting up Spikes with it competitively, Fortetress has very little else going on.

Other than its defense, the rest of the Forretress stats, especially its speed, leave this Pokémon vulnerable in many situations. All it will take is a fire-type to set this Pokémon ablaze. They can be taken down a lot more easily than one would expect.

4 Golisopod

Golisopod-In-Pokémon

Golisopod is a hulking bug and water-type who looks formidable. However, just like Slaking, he has a frustrating ability. Emergency Exit forces Golisopod to run away during wild battles or switch to another Pokémon in Trainer battles when it drops below half health.

This can create so many problems, especially during competitive play when a trainer finds themselves with the perfect match-up against Golisopod, only to find the creature running away and bringing out a fatal contender instead.

3 Regigigas

The Pokemon regigigas standing on a hill in the anime

His colossal size and his status as a legendary may make you think Regigas is a powerhouse of a Pokemon. Even his great stats would help convince you of his importance. However, Regigigas has a fatal flaw, and its name is Slow Start.

Regigias is cursed with the ability of Slow Start. This ability halves the legendary attack and speed for five turns, giving your opponent plenty of time to finish Regigias off before it becomes a useful Pokémon.

2 Cresselia

Cresselia Pokemon under moon at night

Another legendary, Cresselia is not the type of Pokémon you use on the offensive. Cresselia may serve as a good helping hand thanks to their admittedly impressive defensive stats, but because of the lackluster attack stat, Cresselia is not a good Pokémon to use in a competitive one-on-one match-up.

It is also weak against ghost, bug, and dark types. Its bug weakness also makes it an effective target for toxic.

1 Tyrantrum

Anime Tyrantrum-In-Pokémon

Tyrantrum may have been better off staying as a fossil. As a rock and dragon-type, Tyrantrum looks like a powerful dinosaur ready to swallow you whole. However, the low special defense stat leaves these prehistoric beasts highly susceptible to special attacks, which are not helped by their rather slow speed.

Because of its dual-type, Tyrantrum is especially weak against ground, fighting, dragon, and fairy types.
