The Pokémon trading cards have been around for decades and some avid fans have been collecting them since day one. Though it's never too late to start a collection, there are thousands of unique card types and endless sets to acquire, so it's certainly not a hobby for the faint of heart.

Pokémon are sorted by elemental categories—or "types"—so it's only expected that fans favor certain groups over others. That said, the Pokémon of the flaming hot variety have been hailed as some of the most powerful of all time. Let's take a look at the 10 strongest Fire-type cards ever.

10 Entei

Though it may not be the most popular, Entei is a formidable legendary Fire-type Pokémon. It has a solid advantage within its high base HP, but they also boast useful supportive stats. Entei serves best as a starter for Fire decks thanks to Burning Roar.  This move has you discard the top four cards of your deck, and if any of them are Fire Energy cards, you can attach them to any of your Pokémon as you please. Its other attack, Burning Blaze, scales in damage based on your opponent's benched Pokémon. It's a great card to play for early energy acceleration.

9 Infernape

A quick glance at the numbers on this card is enough to make any player curious. The HP is great and the attack damage is incredible. What could be better than that? Upon further reading, you'll notice that Infernape is a little finicky, but the moves work in tandem. Flare Blitz requires you to discard all Fire Energy attached to it. However, the massive Flare Up attack won't do anything if there are less than 10 Fire Energy cards in your discard pile. The best part is that you can shuffle 10 Fire Energy back into your deck from the discard pile afterward. It's an excellent Pokémon to use if you plan accordingly.

8 Blaziken

Blaziken is a fan favorite for many reasons and its strength is one of them. It has always been a powerful Pokémon throughout all the mediums, so it's no surprise that it has earned a spot on this list. Regarding the one pictured above, Clutch is a useful attack for limiting your opponent since it prevents the defending Pokémon from retreating for one round. Burning Shot is a daunting move that does 150 damage to one of your opponent's Pokémon for the price of two Energy cards. Blaziken cards come in several forms, but it's never a bad idea to have them in your deck.

7 Ho-Oh

Equal parts Fire and Flying, Ho-Oh is one of the most iconic legendary Pokémon. Like Blaziken, Ho-Oh cards come in many forms and carry different perks. One noticeable difference is that cards like Ho-Oh EX can utilize several elemental Energy besides Fire. You can always count on these mystic birds to have hearty HP and hefty attacks that sometimes scale. The Basic Ho-Oh comes equipped with Stoke, which can help you stock up on Fire Energy cards by flipping a coin and landing on heads. Fire Wing is a sturdy attack that makes for a great addition to an offensive strategy.

6 Charizard G Lv. X

As predictable as it may be, Charizard will claim more than one spot on this list. As the ultimate fan-favorite Pokémon, this fire hazard boasts some of the most remarkable cards in the game. Specific Charizards come equipped with move sets that are intimidating in battle. For example, Charizard G Lv. X contains Call for Your Power, which lets you move an Energy attached to one of your Pokémon over to your favorite overpowered dragon (provided he's not affected by a Special Condition) as often as you want before you attack. In terms of power, Malevolent Fire packs a heavy punch, because Charizard wouldn't be itself without its damaging moves.

5 Arcanine

A list of Fire-types—whether it be cards or just Pokémon in general—would never be complete without its top dog. This Pokémon is a known heavy-hitter within the trading card game, though these powerful moves usually warrant some sort of drawback. Regardless, a knowledgeable player can strategize brilliant and damaging plays with the hound. The card shown above features two of the few attacks where Arcanine doesn't damage itself in return. Also, Searing Flame grants you the ability to burn your opponent's Active Pokémon. All in all, a Fire deck just wouldn't be complete without at least one of these bad boys.

4 Charizard EX

Charizard's second appearance on this list comes courtesy of its EX form. The Stoke move is useful for gathering more basic Energy cards and its Fire Blast does a solid amount of damage without a massive drawback. Its Mega Evolution comes equipped with Crimson Dive, which deals a staggering 300 damage while doing a mere 50 to itself, which isn't much given its 220 HP. A seasoned player will always keep a Charizard or two in their Fire decks because you can't go wrong with them. After all, there's a valid reason why the majority of players would settle on Charmander as their starter.

3 Flareon EX

First things first: the full art Flareon EX featuring Vaporeon and Jolteon is endearingly beautiful. The other lovely thing about this card is that it charges up its own deadly attack. Flash Fire allows you to pile Fire Energy cards for Flareon, which is critical for its second move. Blaze Ball does a base damage of 50, but you can add another 20 for every Fire Energy attached to it. This means Flareon's power can snowball and cause a significant amount of destruction. Play your cards right and your adorable Eevee evolution could end up ruining your opponent's entire day.

2 Volcanion EX

This Pokémon is a unique dual-type (Fire and Water), but it's hot enough to land a notable spot on this list. Volcanion EX benefits from impressive HP, which helps make it an even better support card. Steam Up lets you discard a Fire Energy card from your hand, but in return, your basic Fire Pokémon's attacks do 30 more damage during that round. Volcanic Heat does a great deal of damage, but Volcanion can't attack during its subsequent turn. Not only can Volcanion strike heavy blows, but he can serve as a solid damage booster every time that you have an extra Fire Energy readily available. It's a great card for crafting daunting offensive strategies.

1 Reshiram and Charizard GX

This is openly known to be the best Charizard card made to date, and it's easy to see why. Just check out that ridiculous HP and the mind-boggling attacks under it. Outrage is a solid "eye for an eye" move where it only gets stronger when your opponent attacks it. Flare Strike deals a mighty blow that can pretty much take out any standard basic Pokémon. However, Double Blaze GX is the stuff of nightmares. In fact, it's so insane that it can only be used once per game, so use it wisely. With the potential to deal 300 damage, this move bypasses any effects on your opponent's Active Pokémon.
