While there is more nostalgia and therefore higher prices for generation one Pokémon trading cards, generation two has its own group of heavy hitters and top dollar cards as well. With this list we'll be looking at a few of those and why they're so expensive.

10 DARK BLASTOISE-HOLO 1ST EDITION $400

One of the most expensive generation one Pokémon when it comes to his card and one of the most expensive in generation two as well. Blastoise isn't the most popular of all the original starter Pokémon but in the world of the trading card game, he is among the most expensive for collectors. He makes his gen two appearance in the Team Rocket set.

This set was released in 2000 and contains more than just this card when it comes to expensive and rare Pokémon and its joined by Dark Raichu, Dark Magneton, and Dark Charizard in a similar price range.

9 BLAINE'S ARCANINE HOLO-1ST EDITION $500

Another gen two card that will fetch you a pretty penny if you happen to have one in pristine condition. The first edition holographic variation of Blane's Arcanine can easily get you a quick $500 as it's one of the cards from the second generation of the Pokémon trading card game on the rarer side.

Blaine's Arcanine made its trading card debut in the seventh expansion pack of the famous trading card game titled, "Challenge from the Darkness" as the first card ever to have a damage rating of 120.

8 DARK CHARIZARD-HOLO 1ST EDITION $550

You really thought Charizard would let any other Pokémon have a higher price range than him? Let alone a feeble Blastoise. No way! This Pokémon card released in 2000's Team Rocket set of the trading card game will run you around $550 in good condition and is most likely the most popular card in the set.

Many love this card not only because it's rare but because it's Charizard and a cooler, edgier Dark Charizard at that! His card art was unique enough to make his card sell at $300 and up.

7 BLAINE'S CHARIZARD HOLO-1ST EDITION $1000

Charizard is so badass and popular he even has to top himself in the trading card pricing world and this Blaine's Charizard holographic card is proof of that. Where the last card went for a measly $500 this big boy will cost you a steep $1000 in mint condition. It's also one of the most popular generation two cards.

Blaine's Charizard, as you can tell by the naming prefix, is another card from the seventh expansion of the card game, "Challenge from the Darkness".

6 DARK DRAGONITE HOLOGRAPHIC CARD WITH PRINT ERROR $1000+

One of the rarest and valuable cards of the Pokémon generation two bunch. Dark Dragonite on its own is a rare and expensive card as is, usually costing from $100-$200 in mint condition. However, when you throw in a quick factory error the price skyrockets due to the rarity of the defective card.

That's right. Due to a printing error on a small amount of the Dark Dragonite cards they go for $1000 and up. The printing error that hit these cards is the fact that they weren't actually holographic as advertised.

5 CHARIZARD-REVERSE FOIL - 2002 $2000

Yeah, we're sick of him too guys you're not alone. Charizard makes its second appearance on the list with a reverse foil variant card. It's one of the most sought after cards in the entire generation and a must have for any Pokémon trading card collector. Plus the reverse foil design is absolutely sick.

This card releases with the 12th series of the Pokémon cards. This set of cards is one of the more popular releases in the series due to sometimes containing multiple cards from the same evolution lines. It also now contains a $2000 Charizard card.

4 RAIKOU-HOLO - 2001 $2000

Raikou is a part of the "Legendary Dogs" in the Pokémon universe and is also one of the legendary cards in the Pokémon trading card universe. He goes for $2000 and is highly wanted by collectors everywhere due to it's grading difficulty. The price of this card can go upwards to $2000 and its lowest price is about $1000.

Raikou made his appearance in the Neo Revelation expansion of the game in 2001. This set was the debut of the shining Pokémon cards. Raikou is one of the main cards of this set, making it fitting for him to be so sought after.

3 TYPHLOSION-HOLO - 2000 NINTENDO POKEMON NEO GENESIS 1ST EDITION $4730

One of the juggernauts of the generation two trading card world and most likely the most popular starter of the generation two gang. Typhlosion is apparently one of the most difficult cards in the entire trading card series to grade. The artwork that graces this card is also one of the most impressive and most raved about pieces in the series.

This card is so rare that its price doesn't go below $2000. In mint the lowest you will find it for is $2500 and it can go upwards towards the $4000 price range.

2 CHARIZARD-HOLO - 2002 $6000

Guess who's back! Back again! Once again Charizard shows up on the list and this time as one of the most wanted cards in the entire world of the Pokémon trading card game. You'd think the holographic would cost less than its more badass counterpart, Charizard reverse foil but that's far from the truth.

Reverse holographic Charizard used to go for more but nowadays the simple holographic Charizard has grown more popular. You won't find one of these in good condition falling below $5000 and the highest it can go is $10,000 in the best condition.

1 TROPICAL WIND - 2001 $10,000

Of course, the most expensive card is a tournament exclusive card. However, not just any Tropical Wind card is worth this extravagant amount of cash. You see, while the original Tropical Wind cards that are worth from $8000-$10,000 there were more versions released in 2004 at the World Mega Battle Tournament. These versions don't come near the original's price range.

The original in mint condition is the one you'll see at the higher price points while you can find the second version's release in a lesser condition much cheaper.
