Two brand new Pokemon games are coming to the Nintendo Switch this year, officially launching the eighth generation of the popular video game franchise.

As part of Nintendo's Pokemon Direct, announcing the latest news for the longrunning series, the company announced Pokemon Sword and Shield. The two games will introduce an entirely new wave of Pokemon and the region of Galar, resembling Western Europe. Additionally, the three starter Pokemon for the two titles have been revealed as Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble.

The new title appears to bring back random encounters with wild Pokemon, a feature that had been removed in Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee on the Nintendo Switch. The installments will be directed by Shigeru Ohmori, who previously directed Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Additional details about Pokemon Sword and Shield are currently being kept under wraps while Nintendo has teased that they are working on other installments of the franchise to be announced at a later date.
