The Pokédex entries in the Pokémon games can be surprisingly morbid, and entries like these are also present in the Paldean Pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Many of these frightening entries are fitting, particularly for Ghost-type Pokémon, who often have to sustain themselves by forcibly latching onto and draining energy from the living.

However, other types of Pokémon can be just as terrifying thanks to their grisly habits, destructive nature, and overwhelming power, making them difficult to approach. Thankfully, these Pokémon don't exist in the real world, or people would have a hard time sleeping at night.

10 Gyarados Will End Any Large-Scale Conflict

Gyrados in Pokémon.

Gyarados is the type of Pokémon that angers easily. If wronged, it will not hesitate to go on a rampage until its rage is quelled. Pokémon Scarlet states that each of Gyarados' appearances have been precursors to destruction, as it has a tendency to raze everything around it to the ground.

Pokémon Violet, much like many of Generation 2's Pokédex entries, points out that Gyarados makes appearances during world conflicts, meaning that this Pokémon has actually been able to bring a swift end to any war that has occurred in the history of the Pokémon world.

9 Gastly's Body Can Poison & Suffocate Many Opponents

A confused Gastly in Pokémon

As its name suggests, Gastly's body is made entirely of gas. To attack prey, Gastly enshrouds other Pokémon with its body. Since the gases that it consists of are toxic, anything within Gastly's body is slowly poisoned over time, as the gas easily permeates their skin.

Pokémon that breathe can also be suffocated if they are trapped within a Gastly's body for too long. Even some of the largest Pokémon are helpless against it, as the size of the opponent doesn't affect Gastly's deadly technique.

8 Houndoom Scares Other Pokémon With Its Howls

Malva and Houndoom in Pokémon.

Houndoom has an intimidating appearance, sporting two large horns, a spaded tail, and bones running down its back. This made many people in the past assume that it was the grim reaper. People aren't the only ones who fear this Pokémon, as a single howl in the middle of the night is enough to send other species running back to their homes.

This is a wise decision, as fighting a Houndoom is ill-advised. One burn from this Pokémon's flames will cause pain that will last a lifetime.

7 Sinistea & Polteageist Possess Tea & Are Deadly To Drink

A Sinistea floats in the air in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Sinistea and Polteageist are two ghost Pokémon that possess tea that has been left alone for too long. Sinistea is a deceased and lonely soul that slips into tea, and if someone drinks it, it enters their body and robs them of their energy. Sinistea tastes terrible, but Polteageist has a delicious flavor.

This makes Polteageist more dangerous, as people might be more inclined to drink more of it. Rather than stealing energy, Polteageist actually kills those who drink too much of it. Strangely enough, many fans of these Pokémon leave out tea on purpose and even drink Polteageist on a daily basis as they enjoy the danger.

6 Gothorita & Gothitelle Should Be Left Alone

Gothorita and Gothitelle in Pokémon.

Gothorita and Gothitelle are unsettling, otherworldly Pokémon that should be avoided. Gothorita is a lot like Drifloon, but instead of posing as a balloon, Gotherita hypnotizes children before whisking them away during bright, starlit nights.

Gothitelle doesn't do this, but instead uses its psychic powers against enemies to give them visions. It shares its prophetic knowledge of the end of the universe and all living things, a sight that has been described as captivating. At the same time, seeing the end of everything sounds grisly.

5 Palossand Drags Pokémon Into Its Body

Palossand in Pokémon.

Palossand is a lot scarier than it initially seems. It is a possessed sand castle; at first, it seems unfathomable that a decorative mound of sand could do much to an enemy. However, this Pokémon plays on the fear of quicksand, as it consumes other Pokémon by forcibly pulling them into its body. The victims are then trapped and drained of their energy for the rest of their lives.

After Palossand's prey dies, it spits out the bones as an offensive attack. It's a terrible fate that no Pokémon deserves to experience.

4 Froslass' Victims Have A Cruel Fate As Decorations

Froslass in Pokémon.

Froslass is an elegant Pokémon with a humanoid appearance, but it is far crueler than it appears. It targets prey and even the Pokémon and creatures that it likes and freezes them with breath that can be as cold as -58 degrees Fahrenheit. Once frozen, these victims are taken to Froslass' home and serve as decorations.

Froslass is a Pokémon that isn't good at showing affection. It is the exact opposite of its pre-evolution Snorunt, as Snorunt is known to bring good fortune to someone if it visits their home.

3 Volcarona Depletes Surrounding Oxygen

Volcarona in Pokémon.

Volcarona's body naturally exudes a great deal of heat, which makes it dangerous for people to get close to it. People who live in hot places want nothing to do with it, but people who reside in frigid climates see Volcarona as an extension of the sun.

Although it is well-liked in cold areas, Volcarona is constantly shedding scales that are naturally scorching. While the scales aren't too dangerous, they quickly deplete the oxygen in the surrounding area. Anyone who gets too close will have difficulty breathing.

2 Brambleghast Envelops & Consumes Entire Towns

Brambleghast in Pokémon Scarlet.

A lost soul tangled up in grass and sticks, Brambleghast sustains itself in horrifying ways. Like a tumbleweed, this Pokémon goes wherever the wind takes it. Although it moves around aimlessly, it hunts prey similarly to many other Ghost-type Pokémon.

Brambleghast wraps its body around its prey and drains them of their energy. Once finished, it tosses its prey aside. Brambleghast is most terrifying in large groups, as they can easily overwhelm an entire town during a mass outbreak. This makes survival seem very slim.

1 Wo-Chien Destroys Nearby Vegetation

Wo-Chien in Pokémon.

Wo-Chien is one of the deadliest Pokémon because of its diet. This Pokémon is a personified grudge of a person punished in a past life. It feeds off of the life force of vegetation.

Wo-Chien can instantly drain entire forests and fields just by being in the area. This extreme hunger hurts the livelihood of people and Pokémon who rely on this vegetation to survive. Additionally, this could include Grass-type Pokémon, as they could also be considered vegetation. They could die without even knowing the cause.
