The next Tera Raid for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will feature Greninja.Greninja, the Generation VI dual-type Water/Dark Pokémon, is the Generation IX games' next Tera Raid. Before its upcoming Tera Raid, players could not catch a Greninja as it is not part of the Paldean Pokédex. Consequently, its evolutionary line, Froakie and Frogadier, will become available through breeding. Along with its usual typing, Greninja will have a Poison Tera Type with a Mightiest Mark. The Mightiest Mark is exclusive to Pokémon caught in 7-star Tera Raid battles. The first Greninja Tera Raid event will take place from Jan. 26 through Jan. 29. The second session runs from Feb. 9 through Feb. 12.
Previously, Scarlet/Violet included the Generation VIII Pokémon Cinderace for a 7-star Tera Raid event. Like Greninja, it was the first time players could catch a Cinderace for their collection. While the Gen VIII pocket monster is Fire-type, the Pokémon becomes Fighting-type after Terastallizing. Before Cinderace, Scarlet/Violet added a Dragon Tera Type Charizard event to acquire the Kanto starter. The games also featured Hydreigon for Scarlet players and Dragapult for Violet owners in another Tera Raid event.
How to Unlock 7-Star Tera Raids
To access 7-star raids, players must complete Scarlet/Violet's postgame content and unlock 6-star raids. To unlock 6-star raids, players must finish the main story of the Generation IX games. After the credits roll, they automatically gain access to 5-star attacks but must complete Academy Ace Tournament postgame storyline and participate in several 5-star raids to reach the higher category. After 15 5-star raids, Jacq, one of the school's teachers, calls to announce another level of available Tera Raids.
While some players have appreciated Tera Raids as an improvement from Sword and Shield's similar system, Scarlet/Violet aren't without their troublesome technical problems. On Jan. 12, The Pokémon Company announced that a Scarlet/Violet software update, Update Ver 1.2.0, would arrive in late February. This version will "include bug fixes and add functionality." However, it does not currently mention any potential performance improvements.
On Dec. 1, The Pokémon Company revealed Version 1.1.0, barely two weeks after Scarlet/Violet's release date. However, the patch mainly fixed glitchy music during battles against the Elite Four and the Top Champion in the Victory Road path and introduced Season 1 of Ranked Battles through Battle Stadium. Following Scarlet/Violet's array of glitches upon launch, Nintendo issued an apology alongside the games' day-one patch. "We are aware that players may encounter issues that affect the games' performance. Our goal is always to give players a positive experience with our games, and we apologize for the inconvenience," the statement read.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
