The Poison-type Pokémon Weezing from Generation I is notorious for being extremely toxic and odorous. It loves to feed on the germs and gases from garbage, occasionally making itself at home in filthy kitchens. The toxins it exhales are equally potent, meaning Weezing sightings are a sign that the surrounding air or environment is unclean. This Pokémon is perhaps most commonly associated with Team Rocket's James from the anime, since its base form Koffing was the first Pokémon viewers learned he had.

In contrast, the more recently discovered Poison/Fairy-type Galarian Weezing is a little less putrid and actually helps purify the air around it by exhaling clean air instead of noxious fumes. This cleanliness is reflected in its moveset, which includes Aromatherapy and Aromatic Mist. Despite these differences, the more foul-smelling Kantonian Weezing has surprisingly been used in the development of high-grade perfumes. The video games first record this achievement in Silver's Pokédex entry, and the description reappears in both the remake SoulSilver and Emerald's regional Pokédexes.

Weezing is essentially a floating science lab. Weezing evolves from Koffing after two Koffing with different gases meet and spend an extended period of time around each other. The two heads join during evolution, and the different gases can combine via the tube connecting each head. While three-headed Weezing have been discovered, typically the first-stage Pokémon only has two heads. These heads frequently change size depending on which has the most gas at the time. Weezing is at its most potent when its two gases combine.

Galarian Weezing's ability to use Aromatherapy gives a clue as to how Weezing's gases are used to make perfume. To make a perfume, manufacturers must obtain the essential oil of its base material, which is typically a plant or other organic matter. Many processes exist to serve this function. As far as Weezing is concerned, the most likely process is carbon dioxide extraction -- except, instead of using carbon dioxide, the Pokémon world uses Weezing's gases.

The carbon dioxide extraction method is used to produce perfumes for aromatherapy. This method involves pressurizing a gas so its molecules liquefy. These are then combined with the organic material to extract the matter's essential oils, which will evaporate into the liquefied gas. The gas is then depressurized, leaving perfume makers with the gas-infused essential oils that separate from the depressurized gas.

The Pokédex entries only mention that Weezing's gases are heavily diluted. This process involves the introduction of water or some other solvent to reduce the gas' potency. If perfumes made using Weezing's gases follow the carbon dioxide extraction method, the gas molecules would be liquefied and then diluted with water before extracting oils from whatever material is serving as the perfume's base. What results, according to the Pokédex, would be a high-grade perfume, which is obviously not what one would expect from a Poison-type like Weezing.
