Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Sell Well With Mixed Reviews

The long-running and multimedia Pokémon franchise kicked off in 1996 with the debuts of Pocket Monsters: Red and Green, which Nintendo later rebranded as Pokémon Red and Blue. Since then, over 120 mainline and spinoff games have been released, and the most recent titles, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet launched exclusively for the Nintendo Switch towards the end of last year. The new games introduce fans and players to Paldea, a Spain-inspired region, and feature the open-world style gameplay of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Intense excitement and hype for Scarlet and Violet before their premieres resulted in them becoming the most pre-ordered Pokémon titles in history; however, the overall response to the games has been mixed. For example, while many players have thoroughly embraced Scarlet and Violet's many glitches and performance bugs, others have sought total refunds from Nintendo.

Updates to Pokémon's Long-Running Anime Series

Pokémon fans have more to be excited about than just impressive cosplay and the latest games in the franchise. Most notably, a brand-new hero will take over the Pokémon anime, replacing Ash Ketchum as the series protagonist, later this year; according to the promotional material, Liko, who some fans speculate is Ash's daughter, is a curious and proactive individual, who seeks to learn new things through her own effort and wields a unique awe-inspiring pendant. The young trainer will be joined on her journey by her Pokémon partner Sprigatito and another trainer named Roy, who has a one-of-a-kind Poké Ball. Pokémon Horizons: The Series will premiere on April 14.

Netflix's Stop-Motion Pokémon Series

Moreover, another new show will make its debut on Netflix in the near future. The stop-motion animated series, Pokémon Concierge, will follow Haru, a resort worker, as she interacts with the visiting pocket monsters and their owners. It will expand the massive world of Pokémon by centering a protagonist who is not a trainer interested in winning a championship. At the time of writing, the official release date for Pokémon Concierge has not been confirmed.

Many Pokémon games are available to play on the Nintendo Switch, and several of the anime adaptations are watchable through Netflix.
