A Gigantamax Melmetal is on its way to Pokémon GO players and fans thanks to its new connection with Pokémon Home, which is coming at the end of this year. Normally this little guy can be tricky to get – unless you have Pokémon Let's Go, that is, but then he isn't a GMax version for Sword and Shield. He's a rare metal-type that is seldom seen in Pokémon GO and being added to Sword and Shield. It's a big deal that people will be able to get them, in their GMax versions, for both games.

Along with Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion updates and announcements, we gained some additional information about Pokémon Home. Currently, Pokémon Home is only usable with the Pokémon Switch games and Pokémon Bank for the 3DS. However, Pokémon GO will finally be added to that list by the end of 2020. Along with it, Nintendo will be giving away a Mystery Box, which is the only surefire way for players to make Meltan appear in Pokémon GO.

Usually, in Pokémon GO, Melmetal is only found through raids, which not everyone can get and are completely random. His first form, Meltan, is not easy to evolve, either, as he's one of the Pokémon that requires an ungodly amount of candies like Magikarp and Swablu, making Melmetal a very difficult to get. There's always walking, but that's a lot of steps to get 400 candy. Sword and Shield players have an even trickier time obtaining it, since both Meltan and Melmetal only appear during specific events, like the Gigantamax Raids. With connectivity to Pokémon Home, its possible to simply transfer one over from a previous game, but this means having one already or getting lucky in a trade for Sword and Shield players.

Thankfully, Nintendo is giving players the opportunity to obtain a GMax Meltan for their GO and Sword and Shield collections. Once the link between Pokémon GO and Home is live, players will be able to receive a Mystery Gift by using the system. This Gift will contain a Mystery Box much like the one Pokémon Let's Go owners received; however, this version of the lure will draw GMax-able versions of Meltan. This means GO players can catch numerous ones to obtain the candy needed to evolve them into Melmetal and use its GMax form. They can also be transferred to Pokémon Home to be moved to Sword and Shield, and used or traded there, as well. We'll likely see a flood of these little guys in trades once the connection goes live, so if you don't want to go through all the setup or don't like Pokémon GO, it's likely you'll still see a chance to get your hands on one.
