For their 25th Anniversary, the Pokemon Company made two major announcements. The Generation Four games, Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, were finally getting remakes. These remakes were named Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl. Secondly, they announced an entirely new game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This would also take place in the Sinnoh region, but many years before the events of Diamond and Pearl.

Although the response to Pokemon Legends: Arceus was mostly positive due to its fresh take, the fan response to the remakes was very mixed. While some people hate the new visuals, others like the cute aesthetic of the games. Naturally, these conflicting opinions gave rise to a large wave of memes.

10 Nothing Has Changed

Although many fans don't like the fact that the people in the game's overworld look like chibi sprites, that has been the case for nearly every Pokemon game. Ever since the very first Pokemon games, the characters outside of battle have been cutely designed, minimalist sprites with little detail.

The amount of color and detail added to each sprite has only gone up since then, and although the new sprites retain the same size, they don't have the same pixels of the old sprites.

9 What's With This Sassy Lost Child?

Cynthia points at Dawn

This meme is an homage to the scene in One Punch Man in which Saitama is confused by the appearance of a child-like figure. There have been many iterations of this Pokemon meme with Cynthia pointing at a tiny Dawn, and fans find it hilarious that this new form of Dawn will be the one defeating Cynthia.

Cynthia is a notoriously feared and powerful trainer from the games, but tiny Dawn is still stronger than her.

8 Cyrus: In Battle Vs In The Overworld

Cyrus has all of the traits of an intimidating villain. He looks tense and serious, and aims to be a god that uses the power of the two legendary Pokemon Dialga and Palkia to destroy the universe in order to create a new one.

Now, fans will get to experience a high-stakes battle against a character with the same goblin-like stature as the new and improved Dawn model. While he may look intimidating in battle, fans will have a hard time taking him seriously in the overworld.

7 Even If You Hate The Graphics You'll Still Buy The Game

Although every Pokemon remake has been subjected to some kind of criticism in the past, the games have always enjoyed a great amount of success. This may be thanks to the nostalgic value of the games, or the fact that every remake so far has delivered something new and meaningful.

Either way, it's safe to say that @temnamii has created a meme that accurately reflects that no matter what fans say about the visuals, most are still going to buy the remake anyway.

6 The Female Protagonists Of The First Four Generation Remakes

Chibi Dawn has become the new Super Smash Bros Villager, a character who is tiny in game, with a terrifying face. Leaf, Lyra, and May all look at Dawn with unsettled expressions. However, this meme is a little ironic since they have all had tiny overworld models in their respective remakes.

May would be the only exception, as her model had more detail than the others. It is still funny to imagine how the other female protagonists would react to Dawn's new design.

5 New And Improved Models

Both tweets make a valid point: the first one states that the new character models aren't so different from the original ones, just updated to have more detail while still retaining the cuteness of the original.

However, in a horrifying visual response, another person tweeted that it's not enough to make minimal changes to a character model. After seeing this post, many fans agreed that they wouldn't want to see a realistic Steve.

4 The Male Protagonist

The male protagonist shares the same, unfortunate fate as most of the other male protagonists in the Pokemon games. The overused design of a red hat and blue vest just doesn't make him stand out from the others.

On the other hand, fans easily recognize both the designs and names of the female characters. The female characters have major design differences, plus the added bonus of making an extended appearance in the Pokemon anime.

3 Pokemon Typos

Pokemon Dialysis Diamond And Pokemon Palliative Pearl

Twitter user @DylanMachad0 tried to type the names of the legendary Pokemon, but the phone's auto-correct feature changed the names drastically. Dialga become Dialysis, and Palkia became Palliative, two different terms used in the medical field.

This led to the birth of a new meme poking fun at the new games. Many Pokemon names are recognized by auto-correct, but it is probably difficult for a phone to remember the names of every single one.

2 The Success Of Different Pokemon Announcements

Fans favor Pokemon Legends: Arceus the most of all of the recent Pokemon announcements, inspiring the most fanart and excitement. This meme shows the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes getting much less love, while Pokemon Sleep has been entirely forgotten.

Announced two years ago, Pokemon Sleep is an app meant to keep track of a person's sleep schedule. It is supposed to include gameplay as well, but news about the app's progress has been scarce.

1 Pokemon Toothpaste

Pokemon remakes reimagined as toothpaste

If the word "Pokemon" was taken out of the titles of the new games, there are a few things people may think Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl may be referring to. Toothpaste would be one of those things, as the titles of these new Pokemon games are very fitting for a product meant to whiten teeth.

If this image was taken out of context, most people would believe that these were legitimate products. The Pokemon Company should consider making this a real thing.
