Now that the Season of Celebration has ended in Pokémon GO, a new one is taking its place: Season of Legends. Like its predecessor, this Season will run for three months starting Monday, March 1. The shift will mark a change in featured Pokémon, new events and more.
New Legendary Pokémon joining the game for Season of Legends include Therian Forme Tornadus, Therian Forme Thunduru and Therian Forme Landorus. Niantic teased more Legendary Pokémon for later in the season, but none have been confirmed at time of writing. Niantic has also assured players that different Mega-Evolved Pokémon will begin appearing in Mega Raids starting March 1, and some will make their Pokémon GO debut as the season continues.
Along with new Legendary Pokémon and Mega-Evolved Pokémon, Pokémon that can be caught in the wild will change as well. Niantic specifically mentioned Mantine, Frillish, Voltorb, Glameow and Hoppip, though this list is not exhaustive.
Both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere will see increased spawn rates for certain Pokémon, to coincide with the seasonal shift. Tangela, Combee, Croagunk, Ducklett and others will appear more often for northern players, while Mankey, Yanma, Buizel, Woobat and others will appear more often in the Southern Hemisphere.
Additionally, Sinnoh region Pokémon like Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup will appear in the wild in the Northern Hemisphere, as well as Spring Form Deerling. Players may even encounter Scyther, Dratini or Cottonee. In the Southern Hemisphere, Unova region Pokémon like Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott will appear in the wild. Players could encounter Pineco, Bagon or Ferroseed, as well as Autumn Form Deerling.
Pokémon hatching from Eggs in Season of Legends will include Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip and Budew from 2km Eggs; Drowzee, Azurill and Munna from 5km Eggs; and Nincada and Alomomola from 10km Eggs. Players can receive increased XP from five-star raids throughout the season and occasionally get free Remote Raid Passes from the Shop. Niantic is pulling out all the stops to make Pokémon GO extra legendary this season.
To that end, a Special Research focused on Legendary Pokémon will be available early on. Players will need to help Professor Willow as he makes exciting discoveries about Therian Forme Tornadus, Therian Forme Thundurus and Therian Forme Landorus. Completing this Special Research will earn Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus Candy, as well as other rewards.
Finally, Niantic has teased March Community Day, GO Battle League Season 7 and even more legendary events. Details are scant, but it seems Pokémon GO players will have plenty to look forward to this season.
Pokémon GO: Season of Legends begins at 8 a.m. local time on Monday, March 1, and will run until 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, June 1.
