Due to concerns about coronavirus, the creators behind popular mobile game Pokémon Go have updated the app, allowing gamers the opportunity to continue using the game's features and experiences while in "individual settings."

A Niantic representative told Polygon they are "prioritizing updates to Pokémon GO features and experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings." The game will also see an increase in habitats, meaning that trainers will see more Pokémon to catch closer to home, which will allow them to continue playing without venturing too far to catch Pokémon.

Incense packs will also be discounted by 99% and will last for an hour. Incubators, which are tied into the number of steps a trainer takes before hatching eggs with new Pokemon, are also planned to become more effective, with Niantic explaining "Trainers can hatch Eggs twice as fast." Not only that, but PokéStops will release more gifts than before. These changes will be put into effect until further notice.

"While we've made these updates based on the current global health situation, we also encourage players to make decisions on where to go and what to do that are in the best interest of their health and the health of their communities," Niantic said.

Like so many planned events, conventions and gatherings, Niantic has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Their planned Abra Community Day has been postponed in the wake of concerns, as was their Pokémon Go Safari Zone event, which was intended to take place between March 27-29 in St. Louis.
