It is clear that the trend of Nintendo remaking old Pokémon games is just going to keep happening. It is especially exciting that the spinoff games are getting the attention too with games such as New Pokémon Snap making its debut. This has fans hopeful that their favorite old Pokémon games might be getting some love again with fancy modern graphics and new features.

With Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl around the corner, the remakes are nearly caught up enough with the new games that trading can happen relatively easily between regions. There are some that are missing however, and some beloved spinoffs could use the love. There's also some that have already received enough attention and really do not need more.

10 Needs A Remake: Pokémon Ranger

If there is one game that desperately needs a remake, it is Pokémon Ranger. The game introduced a new system to temporarily catch Pokémon to utilize for the next stage. Everything was very puzzle oriented and required a lot of strategy.

With a little updating, the Ranger series would make a fantastic addition to modern gaming. Utilizing Nintendo Switch's controls in order to capture the Pokémon would not be too much of a stretch either.

9 Doesn't Need A Remake: Red/Blue/Yellow

Pokemon Red

As much as the original series is a beloved one, it has been remade enough with Fire Red, Leaf Green, and the Let's Go pair alone. This isn't accounting for every spinoff and other nods throughout the past twenty five years.

The least it could do is hold off on another remake until a newer generation of consoles appear. It would be a safe way to try out new systems or to experiment with new methods, but it doesn't need it any time soon.

8 Needs A Remake: Pokémon Colosseum

Pokemon Colosseum

Shadow Pokémon have been an icon for ages, and a highly requested feature of most modern games since the debut of Pokémon Colosseum. Even Pokémon Go has made a nod to the phenomenon, giving many fans hope that some form of Colosseum is in the works.

It had a unique system and allowed for purification of the Shadow Pokémon which could easily be transferred to a new game. Even if they were locked to the game and unable to move to Home except for events, it would make a lot of old time fans very happy.

7 Doesn't Need A Remake: Gold/Silver/Crystal

The Best Pokemon games are Gold and Silver

Heart Gold and Soul Silver were the ideal remakes of classic games. While they are condemned to an older system, they still have a massive fanbase. While they may be able to make some minor visual updates, it would be difficult to improve the masterpiece that was the remakes they already had.

The concept could make for an interesting future game, one where the player can explore multiple regions. However, it doesn't need to be yet another Gold and Silver remake.

6 Needs A Remake: X/Y

Pokémon X and Y's Legendary Pokemon Xerneas And Yveltal

The biggest disappointment of and Y's generation is the fact that they were clearly leading up to a Z. Instead of going for it, the developers put their attentions to Sun and Moon, to where there was a slapped together Zygarde plotline. In it, the players collected Zygarde cells to change the form of said Pokémon, but it was so heavily backgrounded that it really felt like it didn't belong.

Giving the X and Y games a remake to finally tie up that loose end and give a real goal for Lysander would make the year of many long time fans.

5 Doesn't Need A Remake: Pokémon Quest

Pokemon Quest

As cute as Pokémon Quest was, the game very clearly existed only to sell a new style of merchandise. As such, the only way that the game should even be considered as a remake is in conjunction with LEGO or in some Minecraft-style building game.

Either way, the initial release of Quest was in 2018, which was only three years ago. Remaking it would feel more like a cash grab than the game itself already was.

4 Needs A Remake: Hey You, Pikachu!

Hey You Pikachu! was a game far above its time. It tried so hard to make an interactive game in a time where the technology just wasn't there. Nowadays, the technology is absolutely everywhere.

Having a game much like the Pokémon Amie minigame found in Pokémon X and Y where the player can intricately interact with a variety of Pokémon would definitely be a hit, especially among younger players.

3 Doesn't Need A Remake: Mystery Dungeon

The Mystery Dungeon series is a well loved series with a massive following of fans. As such, the game itself has already found a number of installments to it. While the concept of controlling a Pokémon while exploring the world and solving puzzles is fun, it's been done enough.

None of them really need remakes, and if the developers are set on making a new one, they might as well just make another installment. The games have no reason for a remake while there's still room to just make a new one.

2 Needs A Remake: Poképark

One of the drawing features of Poképark was the ability to control a Pokémon and go around to make everything a friend. It follows a similar feeling as Mystery Dungeon, but is more of a casual game. This is something the franchise is rather shy on and could benefit from a remake of.

While it could be too simple, it could appeal to a younger crowd. Pokémon Amie concepts could be brought into the game too where the player could interact with the Pokémon in the park in intricate ways.

1 Doesn't Need A Remake: Pokémon Rumble

Another spinoff game that was clearly a cash grab was Pokémon Rumble. The Pokémon within the game are literally all toys, screaming to be made into merchandise. While puzzle games are always fun, all of them fell flat.

Besides, the games are pretty new themselves, so remaking any of them would just feel like a waste of assets when there are many others that could benefit more from the treatment.
